Se invece Carina, riuscirà a rimanere incinta con gli ovuli di Maya e a portare a termine la gravidanza. Per legge, nessuno potrà mai portarle via il bambino perchè Maya, diventa la madre biologica. In ogni caso il bambino è di entrambe la legge è chiara su questo. Maya e Carina hanno gli stessi diritti e doveri neI confronti del loro bambino. L'argomento dell'adozione è già stato trattato in maniera molto accurata e approfondita in Grey's Anatomy con Callie e Arizona. Anche se Callie è la madre biologica di Sofia, perchè l'ha partorita lo è anche Arizona, perchè l'ha adottata legalmente e inoltre, dopo il divorzio Arizona, ha ottenuto l'affidamento esclusivo della bambina ma nonostante questo entrambe le madri hanno gli stessi diritti.
