I feel certain that none of these players entered the arena wearing women’s clothing.

There is not one player in today’s game that plays defense like Jerry Sloan, he would make modern players cry like babies.

So while the network was away showing LBJ's speech, we get to watch the game the same way the fans in the stands did. Neat!

Notice how They actually played defense and respected the game back then.. Not like the NBA All Star game these days. Today, They have made a mockery of the game. They might as well not play a game if all they are going to do is showboat and stand around and watch a player shoot or drive to make a dunk. Like the NFL…do away with the game and go to a skills competition and that’s it.

Players look at lot bigger and stronger in the past. They probably worked out harder trying to make some money, while today's players can retire after signing their contract.

Oscar played in 12 AS games & won 11 of them (7-1 w/ East & 4-0 w/ West). He scored 20+ 8X. These were bragging rights for the great players back then when competition meant everything. The NBA AS game was the best of the 4 major sports at that time & always a treat to watch. Oscar is not quite in his peak prime here which was before 1966 when he was the greatest player the world will ever see because of the rules & pre-expansion competition factor.

Too bad today’s players can’t play at this level. The NBA is a prima Donna club full of whiners, wife beaters and drug addicts. Gone are the days of great players who cared more about their teams than today’s narcissistic blowhards. What a treat it was to watch this game unpolluted by constant commercial breaks and announcers filling every moment of silence with complete blather. Today’s players can virtually carry the ball the court length without dribbling and they get 3 points for long shots. If the older players had the cushy environment today’s players have their stats would be off the charts. Elvin Hayes was better than any hack in the NBA now.

I think the NBA All Star teams from 1969 ,1970 ,1983 ,1988 , 1990 and 2001 were some of the best, ever. The 1992 Dream Team and 2008 Olympic team were amazing too.

I watched the first 35 minutes. Compared to today's game, it's soo slow, with so many misses and turnovers. No handles, the rim is so unforgivingly stiff. Like a different game. And they go back and forth and don' t pass to Wilt at all.
@ifheavenwashuman2 ай бұрын
The rules of dribbling were enforced differently, at the time. It affected what moves can be performed, especially combo moves that we see today. There's a reason why we didn't start seeing that regularly until the late 90s, but surely the 2000s.

29:44 to those saying what a real All Star Game this game was...i agree with that. And contrary to Chris Schenkel's boast on how ABC being "the #1 network for sports"...this game was preempted for President Johnson's State of the Union address. This game was competive, the coverage and planning of this game was mismanaged. Why did NBA hold the All Star Game on the same night LBJ did his State of the Union? (another irony was the game was in Baltimore...and the State of the Union was in nearby Washington DC)
