From the deluxe album version of the score. You can find the playlist of it on Powell's KZfaq channel.

Interesting. Good score but I see why they rejected it. It’s a little too fast paced right out of the gate whereas Goldsmith’s score kinda lets it flow naturally. Newman is still one of the best though!
@Ryan.82-u8c6 ай бұрын
Even though Newman is one of my favorite film composers, I definitely agree. To be quite honest however, I don't feel like this score would be out of place if it was in a completely different film. Like maybe Independence Day or something.

You may or may not be aware, but John Powell was actually Patrick Doyle's assistant at the beginning of his career, and with Doyle being a Scotsman himself, his Celtic style may well have rubbed off a bit on Powell.
@Ryan.82-u8c7 ай бұрын
I had no idea about that until you said it. That's some interesting information! I always speculated that Doyle probably had some sort of influence on Powell.

Man, the amount of detail that you analyze and explain about each musical track makes me open my mouth at the genius that John Powell put into the HTTYD films and I never stopped to think or realize (and I've been listening to him for a matter of years). So please, even if you're just starting a small channel, I'm sure you'll grow to the point where many more people will see how important it is to analyze the music and soundtracks present in films. Keep up the good work, I hope you expand to more movies, franchises and different composers! And know that there is always someone who will be following and watching your videos. P.S: Joking aside, you've just become my music analysis teacher!

@Ryan.82-u8c8 ай бұрын
I checked the scorebook, and it isn't too different from the version you're looking at. It's mainly in the percussion section and nowhere else, so I'll just list them here. Dulcimer Shaker 2 Suspended cymbals (One small and one standard) 2 Piattis (One small and one standard) Dhol Tom toms 2 Snare drums (One piccolo and one standard Large tam tam Gong Surdo Gran casa That's all I know, plus the first half of the cue is in 12/8 while parts of the orchestra are playing in 4/4. Let me know if you need anything else.

@@Ryan.82-u8c oh ok thank you so much!! Yeah I knew there was some background percussion, just couldn't tell which ones outside of the orchestral standards 😅 Have a good one!!! @@Ryan.82-u8cLet's do it again. I want to contact you directly to get information about those scores that you have and in which I may be interested. I asked you if I could contact you by email. You told me it was possible. Next, I asked you to give me your email address. You have read it (as evidenced by your "like" under my corresponding comment), but you have not answered anything. It became unclear to me, to which I once again asked you a question in the comment: will you give your email address or not? Now you write to me that you don't know what's going on. I really like the music of such composers as Randy Newman, John Powell and others. I would like to see this music on the sheet, as I really want to perform it, but my hearing is not so good. I watched your "analyses" of this music, and I think that in addition to all the videos of "analyses" of soundtrack scores published (with open access) on KZfaq, you may also have other scores. Therefore, I would like to contact you personally and discuss everything, because it is almost impossible to do this on KZfaq, since the latter deletes any of my comments that contain links to all sites except KZfaq, and it is impossible to attach any file here.

Thank you for this analysis. I am studying music for film for my Masters Degree in Film Scoring. I will eventually get the Omni Publishing book, but it's nice to see a reduction of the cue. Right away what stands out is the use of the string harmonics that has this snake-like quality of curiosity, but also, it gives way and leads the listener/audience to a more mind-racing element, with the four against three feeling with steady pulses from the Timpani and Goblet Drum, etc. Anyway, again, great work!
@Ryan.82-u8c9 ай бұрын
Thanks! I definitely agree it's sometimes easier to read a reduction of some scores, especially some of the more complex ones (This film in particular).
