Had my first ever casting lesson with Hywel recently on a very wet day at a Game fair in Norfolk. He pointed out a few things to tidy up on my cast . Amazing how much less effort you need to put in when your technique is working more efficently. It was worth getting soaked for 😊

A sacred place to me....I love Herdman's Mill...it's just truly sad how it's been left and disrespected....if only the mill had been regenerated. I live in Co, Mayo, famous for it's Woollen Mills...which is today a shop and small museum with a lovely coffee shop. It is world renowned.... Herdman's Mill should have been given heritage status with the National Trust investment and protection.....I would have loved to have seen a museum, shops , public areas with gardens and a hotel a sports maybe a spa centre a nature trail a heritage trail involving the swinging bridge....local Crafts and Coffee shop/restaurant etc...what a shame it had so much potential.... Herdman's Mill brought much needed local employment through the years...it's located on the Banks of the river Mourne....as is Foxford situated on the banks of the River Moy bringing a fishing and a tourism industry....all the bonuses that mill could have bought to the locals....I think of the flax and the spinning and the believe it or not the smell of the mill workers. Their lovely voices and laughter walking up the mill lane....all life revolved around that mill and village...the Herdman's family were entrepreneurs who provided work and a village with housing, a train station two churches and school plus the mill shop, it's own doctor ...in it's hey day the mill had Bowling Greens, tennis courts and a cricket field....the actual mill was a beautiful building in a lovely creamy sandstone with a sort of ivy greenery growing on it and a clock tower...it's so sad to see the destruction and deliberate vandalism it's gone through. It could have been so much more....I was on holidays years ago in the Carribbean and I met a man that worked on the docks in Belfast and he said he remembered the boxes being shipped out from Belfast with Herdman's Mill printed on them. No doubt the contents were of beautiful homespun Irish Linen being sent to countries all over the world made by the hard working hands of the great people from the surrounding areas....so much fantastic history and Sion Mills was such a beautiful village were everyone knew each other...I'm going back into the past to a time when most people left their front doors open....I'm a romantic at heart but I have a family connection to Sion Mills and at least four members of my family once worked in the mill so it has a special place in my.........❤

Our ancestors went to St Bridget's Well and we still visit ....our mother took us every year. She was born in Urney and two days old was baptised in St Columba's Chapel... Our family originally came from Castlefin and Killygordon, they lived in different areas Grahamsland, Ardnaglass, my great grandparents married in Donaghmore and my grandmother was born in Sessiaghallison.. eventually the family moved to Urney/Somervillestown just before partition... Eventually onto Sion Mills, those roads we walked manys the time with the prompting and promises of ice creams, Paris buns and lemonade.....from the shop in Clady....I would not swap those memories for anything. My brother cut his finger on the gate at the well, our friend ran like blazes through the field she was sure a bull was running after her....I can still see the Soldiers Barracks at the junction and i remember the guards sitting in their car, with their STAD sign as we crossed over into the official Republic. We would call into the chapel first, say our prayers, light a few candles, walk round the graves and pay our respects, then call into the little shop there. For something to keep us going for the next stage of the journey......I love the story of Father James Gallagher and how he risked his life to say the banned catholic mass and the bravery he showed, giving our humble ancestors the holy communion out in the middle of nowhere during the cruel Penal times....our wonderful ancient history that dates way back to druid times....go riabh maith agat for the footage.... especially more so now as we celebrate our mother's passing. She passed away on Tuesday morning 28th May 2024.... and into her coffin went some holy water from the little well and some little stones...along with flowers picked from the roadside...and our flag...a proud Irish woman who loved her country and our ancient culture and traditions...RIP Mum...thank you for all the beautiful memories of the times we walked in all weathers to get to the little well.

When driving north to Derry/Londonderry this broadcasting mast is beautifully lit up at night a chain of red lights from the top down , it,s a hobby looking out for tv / radio masts as i travel the country [ there is no Cure for my passion] ☘Thanks for the video.

Lovely to see the estuary again in your very nice video! Im Irish and live in New Zealand, but back in 69 I lived in Inniskillen and one beautiful day that summer myself and two younger men went over the estuary bar in a 14 foot dinghy with a 4 hp motor on it! We intended trolling just out side the bar for Sea Trout ! Crossing that bar was a first for all of us and I had never had experienced big swell conditions before! I put a brave face on it and We got over the bar ok climbing up the face of the massive incoming green swell with no bother at all! But it had unnerved us and it was when I saw a much bigger wave approaching that I made a very dangerous decision to try and get back in over the bar! I turned quickly and gunned the motor to try and beat the wave in that looked very scary coming at us! One moment we were doing 3 knots towards the estuary entrance bar and the next thing we were lifted up about 5 mts then propelled down the face of the wave at a greatly increased speed around 10knots! They call it surfing !How I kept the boat in a straight line down that wave front I do not know! It prevented it from digging in and turning over ,throwing us all out of the boat which could have ended very badly indeed ! But no we made it back in safely and the lesson I learnt that day about crossing river and estuary bars in slow boats in big swell wave conditions has served me well on similar boating occasions here in New Zealand! Yes we did catch some Sea Trout in the estuary that day and I will always remember that and the run in with the bar with awe and respect for letting us through!

Aidan, a fantastic bit of exploring👍 The Glen looks like it has been given the time and space to do its own thing and that has allowed it to become a beautiful place. Loved the fungi and just how dense everything seemed to be and those wellies looked like a must💦😊

Aidan, such a cool walk on the doorstep of the town with so much going on with nature👍 Loved the wooden sculptures and the fact they were designed by local school children and a local craftsperson👍 The Burn looks like it would be right at home in the middle of the mountains. Those sloes looked ripe for collecting. Always great to be out exploring😊
