Walls in old houses aren’t always perfect. My preferred method is to mark two parallel lines with say a 4x2 timber along wall on both side of angle , mark a line through the corners and use two sliding bevels for left and right cuts. Then use bevel to transfer angle directly to mitre saw. I always mark a little bigger and trim down to fit. Works for me anyway.

With a 6ft span, that’s a 36 inch run and with a 6/12 pitch should my rafters be 40 1/4 ?

Not every wall is gonna be perfectly plumb, one trick I use is cutting your pieces long. Then put them in place and scribe the back side of the board where it hits the corner. It will give you the vertical angle you need to cut at for it to line up with the wall on both pieces as well as your over all length. On a standard 90 degree corner I also cut the corners on a 45.5 degree cut if it is getting painted. it will compensate for out of whack corners. Caulking will cover if there is a small crack in areas against the wall.

I like this, great method. But I did not understand rafter length, or how far away should I place birds mouth from plum cut. Also, if I have single slope roof but not a lean to, I presume I will be cutting birds mouth at both ends?

I realize this video was made five years ago, but damn you explain this better than any other video I have seen. I have had so many problems ending my baseboard. I understand the concept, but I cannot get that last piece right you were the first person to show how it is actually done on that little return piece, when you move the saw to zero for that last cut. thank you so so much my husband will be happy. I can get my molding finished now. He’s sick of looking at it.
