I had the privilege of being attached to 1RTR when I was F Troop C Bty RHA, call sign G76F. We were Strikers providing Swingfire anti tank to the battle group for many years. The best job I ever had. Started as a driver and left as a vehicle commander. Loved the CVRT and the role of the 1RTR battlegroup.

I was at the tank museum the other day showing someone around. I pointed out steve on the memorial outside and the circumstance around his murder.

Very poignant and sad. I share you're sentiments exactly. My old man was RTR and I was RNZAC.

Perhaps 'was' needs adding. I was with 1 RTR at Tofrek.... The Chieftain was a tad dodgy! So maybe Centurion?

Saw a Sultan burned out in Split; the North Port, in 1993. The back of it had melted, looking like silver coloured melted candle wax. It had been stolen by some rogue Jugs and set on fire. The Brit soldiers had been stripped of their uniforms and were left in their boots and undies! A hazard of UN ops where we were all too scared to shoot!!! 😂

I am surprised they refer to it as a tank, which of course it is not.

@paulrobinson82634 ай бұрын
Sorry for late reply, we parked at Swinton bivouac cafe very close to the druids temple, honesty box parking of £3 in envelope and write your reg no on and stick it in the box, it’s about a 3 mile hike and 3 mile back but a very interesting place. Visit the druids temple whilst there as it is an interesting place, thanks for watching 👍👍
