The Shining and The Exorcist movies only scared me when I was a little kid. Now they don't. The rest of the list of movies I have seen and was not scared at all and consider them funny. If you think The Ring is scary check out the original Japanese movie called Ringu.

The Exorcist made people really sick when it was released. People at the cinemas experienced stomack pain, headache and some even fainted and passed out completely. There's something really weird about this movie, it's not only scary, it's actually deeply disturbing.

Hitchcock said Horror is a matter of taste. And I don't mean the blood. To me I always put myself in the hero's situation. The more dangerous,stressful the character gets in the more horrifying the story becomes. Where u ask yourself a simple question. Can such things be and can I get out of this alive . The original Invasion off the Body Snatchers scared me because they get u while u sleep. And u have to sleep. The original The Haunting, Psycho, The Exorcist, Seven, the original Night of the Living Dead, Night of the Hunter, both 51 and 82 versions of The Thing. Horror is a great genre. Too bad many critics, film professors look down at them as being repetitious and just stupid. I still think The Exorcist and the Sixth Sense should have won for best picture. But that's just my opinion.

Night of the Living Dead has always been my all time #1 favorite horror film with The Exorcist being a close second. After these two classics, my top 10 would include Psycho, The Shining, Horror of Dracula. Black Christmas, 1408, Blacula and it's sequel Scream Blacula Scream and rounding off my top ten, The Omen.

I don't consider horror movies masterpieces. They can be well made, but they're schlock. You have to have some higher effects for masterpiece. They can be excellent movies, though.
