Enjoyed the song. Collaboration. No doubt it is a net positive. The one time I did, I paid a professional musician/producer to work with me on covers and that in turn inspired me to write a few originals. Lessons? Ying and Yang. I realized that if I kept things within my skill set, I could write and record songs on my own. My abilities were better than I realized. Your kazoo example was perfect. Prior to working with the producer I would record a track and fizzle as I didn't think it sound good at all. But I learned that as you fold individual elements into a mix the entire song becomes a greater than it's parts. Also, seeing mixing vs YT videos and reading about it was very helpful. I also learned how much I didn't know. Specifically what comes to mind, putting a song in a key I can sing; playing in time; tune my vocals (hobbyist here) but keep it natural; and so much more.

Hey Fezzler, thanks for such an interesting response. lessons are an obvious form of collaboration I overlooked! I love how recording covers inspired original tunes! I think I have also come across this, I find myself trying to play or sound like something and suddenly I have something new that I didn’t expect which becomes a song or at least a song idea.

Great song and very good sounding recording. I am always coming back to standalone devices (Zoom R8, R24, Tascam cassette portastudios, Tascam DP24SD, DP008, Yamaha AW4416...) after going the pc + DAW route. There is just something ultimately satisfying to these machines, they sound fine, everything works without hassle, it just makes me focus on the music more I guess.

Just bought the Model 12 solely for the MPC 8 outputs. My goal was to use the Model 12 strictly as an audio interface for multitracking the 8 outs of MPC into Ableton. I did not know this wasn’t an analog mixer after purchase. Beautiful mixer but disappointed of its limitations when recording into DAW. From my understanding, you CANNOT use the Panning, EQ and Faders per channel to add a pre-mix and then record that into DAW? Just looking for a second opinion here lol. I can still multitrack the 8 outs into Ableton no problem. But it all goes in dry no matter if the faders are up, or down or the channels are panned left/right. This mixer is very confusing. I guess all those great features are for standalone recording to SD??? If you can help navigate me on any possibility here it would be highly appreciated lol!!
@themediapreacher8154
@themediapreacher8154 12 күн бұрын
@@GoldynChyld hey there, it is a basic mixer for DAW. I use it in logic and the faders and pan knobs work in each channel but that’s about it, I control eq and effects in the box. I see the model 12 as an old school multitrack which can also be used as a really good interface. If you are looking for analog mixer I can see why you would disappointed. Do you have a right to return window to buy an alternative ?
@GoldynChyld
@GoldynChyld 12 күн бұрын
@@themediapreacher8154 I would return it but I have already exhausted several returns from other soundcards at this point lol. Thought this was the ONE based on all the great reviews but overlooked the fact that everyone loves it as a DAWLESS machine. What sold me was the 10 inputs and just thought the knobs would work no problem on the mix before tracking into DAW. Thought that was standard for any mixer/usb interface. I got played again smh. I will just go ahead and hold onto this because it still records all 8-10 tracks simultaneously into DAW. I will just have to pan, EQ and add FX once in Ableton. I have heard however that changing the options to “Post EQ” may help record the EQ at least. I will check that out. Thank you for replying back and confirming this. Appreciate it! Cheers

I just buy the films that i like so i don't have a problem with buying films for the sake of it .That's when you fall in the trap like you have and you find that most film you have you will never watch. DVD is crap quality and mostly on blu ray now and coming to 4k so any films i have on blu ray i will just sell them as there on 4k. But i get what you saying for space reasons especially when your moving to another house that would be a life changer but if you throw away the original blu ray or 4k boxes that the disk goes into for saving space then you will lose its value on the market for a rare film with its original box missing. So what do you do then as you still will have no room because you're keeping the empty original cases' and boxsets for its value reason. Especially if your into Steel book collection edition and boxset like i am for your favourite films with the nice artwork your pretty much not going to throw away those case's some of them are over hundred pounds and a lot more

Nice video! Couple of friendly suggestions which I learned from another youtube channel (@recordingstudio9): firmware 1.42 has a gain boost which you can apply to mics like the SM58. Also there's a normalize function now which can help in the final mastering, and also... if you bounce your mastered track from main back to 9/10 you can re-record it with the compression at 9 o'clock and that will help fit everything together before you export the main track with the export function for distribution.

I agree completely. If you want to avoid the heavier weight and the higher cost of a hammer-action keyboard, I think the M-Audio Keystation 61 MK3 is terrific. Another great option you might consider is the Casio CT-S1. It has some built-in sounds that are quite good (perhaps not equal to Pianoteq). It also has built-in speakers and you can run an audio cable from your iPad headphone jack to the "aux input" on the Casio (decent sound quality for practicing, but not loud enough for performance). I think the key action is equal to or slightly better than the M-Audio and you can select 3 different velocity curves. The Casio lacks a pitch bend and mod wheel. Casio just announced a 73-key version of the CT-S1 and the extra keys would be very helpful for may keyboard players.

Yeah, you mentioned how because of 80s production It's straight away from sounding like real instruments. And yeah, that's definitely correct. But I kind of saw it this way when I listened to 80s records. I didn't think d*** that. Drum machine doesn't sound like a drum. I just kind of hear it as it's not supposed to mimic.

This is just my opinion. No hate here. But I love 80s production. Yeah, there's some bad 80s. Records, just like there's some great 80s. Records that used great use of 80s production for its time. I personally love it. I love all the keyboards and the drum machines ect. It's all just so fun and loud. There are some great records that came out of the 80s that Kate Bush's records. I mean, there was some heavy fair. Light used on those records, but they're so good. And of course, Peter Gabriel ABC Howard Jones. The dream Academy. Peter Cetera. Pet Shop Boys. Aha, duran duran I even love that Jane child record that came out in the end of the 80s Even Rick Springfield's 80s records. I absolutely adored. No, hate you're just saying I love it.

Picked up one about a week back because of qualities highlighted in this review. I already have a more substantial portable digital piano with a progressive hammer action. This little key controller fits in different locations, yet isn't totally foreign when I switch. One downside I've noted on my copy, and which I've seen reported by other reviewers: The MIDI velocity/touch response isn't super consistent between the keys. So you might have problems with playing that relies on nuance. Still it's super inexpensive and light weight and has a decent key feel and response. You can play it not only on a stand with a sustain pedal, but also play it semi comfortably with it just propped on a lap, or bed, or desk/table! Although those aren't ideal positions, it expands when and where you can play.

Something like this crossed my mind but i could never. However since i was running out of space, i went in and took a look at my collection and decided to just part ways with the dusties. I’ve got fake stereo and mono boxed sets that I picked up when I was living in Shanghai (where genuine articles just cannot be had). I have never listened to the discs, as I’ve kept them in the shrink wrap, so I can’t speak to the audio quality or the quality of the booklets or inner sleeves. The outer boxes of both sets seem to be of higher quality than the other fakes I’ve seen reviewed on KZfaq. Some of my albums exhibit some of the spelling errors and bad reproduction quality I’ve seen, but others do not. I conclude that I’ve got a higher quality fake, but a fake nonetheless.

Cool mate, cheers. Couple of thoughts: First off, thank you for making this demo feature an actually pretty good song with competent singing, Almost every other 'gear demo' type video for the Model 12 that I've watched has very poor music being recorded on it, which is a bummer to sit through. Secondly, with regard to the compressor knob, another KZfaqr (RecordingStudio9) made a detailed analysis of how it works.( The upshot is here... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rZqIq7h1qrbbZX0.html.) Basically, at 25% (9 o'clock or so) it acts as a high threshold 100:1 limiter, and then as you go clockwise on the knob, the threshold lowers, and the ratio drops as well down to your typical 8:1 - 4:1 compression ratios. So it does very different things depending where you are on the knob, not just "less/more". Finally, I am planning to get a Model 12 and use it similar to what you've done here, so your video was a nice workflow tour.
