Thanks for the overview. I'll be following this with interest as the diorama that you are building is similar to one I want to attempt but with variations. Tganjs again for allowing us to learn.

I'm currently considering buying this kit, as I'm just beginning to get back into the hobby after a 30 year hiatus and it's cheap on Ebay. Your results are great and I couldn't match your skills, maybe one day. I guess I'll give it a go, and try to get results 25% as nice as yours. Very nice diorama and build. I've subscribed.

Thanks! I got back into model building during a Covid layoff, so 4 years ago or so. The best advice, don'y judge your work by others, build what you like and paint to your own standards! That said, there are many wonderful channels out there to show you how to improve! Good luck with your journey and thanks for the sub.

@twitch1965 Thanks for the advice. I attempted to get back into the hobby during covid but I was staying with my partner at her place and didn't have a workspace or approval. Since last December I have been back at my place and am now getting in to the kits I have here. I have a good stash at my former partners but she's not parting with them, who knows why? No comment, she's probably sold them! Lol

The soldiers were "acceptable", but the tank commander, expecially for the head, was terrible, perhaps it could be saved with adding another head and modifyng the neck.

Eh, to each his own, I like them. They look like lean mean fighters, far better than the fat American looking Tamiya figures from the kit.

From eBay, no original packaging, terrible casting... you have illegal counterfeits there. Did the eBay listing state that it was original "paracel miniatures"? Most of the times, counterfeit sellers show pics of original packaging but don't mention it in the title of description. I'm sure it was shipped from certain countries...
@twitch19653 ай бұрын
could be, but it was from a private seller with a US address, selling off and old stash from an estate.

Hey there, sorry, no the kit does not come with paint. I used Vallejo paints from their Air Series through my airbrush. RLM 66 for the interior, RLM 76 under color and a combination of RLM 74/75 in a splinter camouflage combination.

How do you have access to the tunnel incase of a derailment?
@twitch19655 ай бұрын
The section of tunnel liner is only 8-inches long, and the part that the mountain covers is 3 inches at most. You should be able to reach derailed car with your hands or a bamboo BBQ skewer at worst. If that failed, then you can cut away the tunnel liner, it only paper and a thing layer of plaster,, that would be easy to repair.

This is a very intriguing Me-163 diorama. I've seen photos of Me-262 jet fighters being towed by a team of horses or oxen, and the point is not lost: The most advanced aircraft at the time being towed by draft animals. In the case of the Me-262 jet, the Luftwaffe had low-grade fuel that the jets could use. But the Kettenkrads used as towing vehicles were more 'finicky,' and needed gasoline, which was in very short supply. But I've never seen an Me-163 rocket fighter model displayed this way. I suspect this is because most modelers would prefer to use the Scheuch-Schlepper that comes with the Academy kit, (as well as the earlier Heller kit,) for its visual interest in a diorama. Not only is your diorama excellent, it is very unique. 6th like.
@twitch19655 ай бұрын
Well thank you very much for the kind words, they really brightened my day! Love the bit of history as well. I'm going to use the little tracker (Scheuch-Schlepper, that's a fun set of words to say!) for something else, even if it's just a background piece of equipment.

I've been glueing down my unitrack by placing small 1/8" epoxy fillets at strategic locations in the layout to keep it all nice and flat. It is very quick and will allow me to easily remove the switches and track pieces if I need to do some repair work or deconstruction.
@twitch19657 ай бұрын
epoxy fillets? Not sure what you mean. I'm not planning on the seeing my last railroad, once I retire, in c couple years, and get out of the South, I'll see what space I have in my "forever house" then I'll worry about being able to tear things up with ease! I am interested in what your talking about,
@toomanyhobbies4007 ай бұрын
I stopped using the black Kato insulated rail joiners and found another product. The black plastic is too high, so if your rolling stock has large wheel flanges (even those smaller than the pizza cutters) you can end up with derailments or rocking cars.
@twitch19657 ай бұрын
Interesting, I haven't found that to be the case, but I'll keep an eye out for issues!
@paulthewall47647 ай бұрын
The track that does NOT go into the building can be a “Storage” and a “Scale” track. Cars waybilled to the industry can go to the storage track first, then MTY’s from the storage track get spotted for loading. Cars that have been loaded get spotted for weighing. Cars on the scale get pulled and forwarded off layout. This way the local may show up with four cars, but the switch crew gets to switch 12-16 cars. The inter-plant switching is a “car loading-Multiplier”.
@twitch19657 ай бұрын
I like your idea!

New track does that jumping thing. Everything looked really good. Same problem I have with tankers. That’s my next big project, adding the right weight to all my cars. Great video
@twitch19657 ай бұрын
Yeah, the slinky effect, I think it has something to do with the scale and the springs in the couplers, I needs to set some standards and get all the same wheels, couplers and proper car weight! I've go one spot on the turnout leading into the industrial sidings that isn't consistent, but it's not glued down, so I'm not locked into that section of track. Thanks for the comment!
@charlesgwyn21157 ай бұрын
MT also makes tiny retarding springs to fit between the axle points and their matching holes in the trucks. One or two per car retards that slinky effect very well... I use them on all my cabooses, which tends to stretch out the whole train. I think they're included in the small parts packet.
