Pairs excellently with a little light webcomic reading. Look up Problem Sleuth, its a bit of a commitment, but can be breezed through in an afternoon.

As the blue velvet shade moon light shines through the metal blinds; and behind it is the face of gruff and determination with an aggressive shade of orange, embers begin to glow softly and dissipates with ease. Private I. Valentine Overlooks the glowing streets of Chicago. In a milky white sleeved shirt both arms rolled, and a satin burgundy line patterned short tie and a grey wool jacket hand-hooked on his right shoulder. Valentine gives his jet black hair a brief comb over before placing his grey Derby over his head, ready to walk into the harrowing streets.

I observed the hustle and bustle of the city, I saw a man with a comically large Afro, and I mean it was a huge Afro, the kindof stuff you’d see in one of them eighties movies. It reminded me of ma’s polpettes that she’d whip up for me. That was before she got cancer and died, it wasn’t the cancer that killed her, she fell and couldn’t get up so we called an ambulance, that ambulance later fell off a cliff and blew up in a large slough of fire death and destruction, upon reminding myself of my mothers unfortunate passing I let out a blood curdling scream in remorse “AEEREEEAGH” the sound erupted across the city streets, a man came up to me and asked if I was “okay” I knew immediately he was working for Joshinokos Yakuza boys, I beat him up severely to the point he had a chin as big as a Habsburg, I spent the rest of that night in a holding cell.

NYC: Brooklyn, 1984, they call it the Big Apple or, the city that never sleeps. in my 10 years on the job, you have no idea how true that really is. name's smith, Blake D Smith, Detective Sgt, NYPD 53rd Precinct Homicide, badge number 227, Brooklyn. Ive been with the NYPD for 10 years, ever since being honorably discharged from the Marine Corps where i served as a military police officer (MP for short) and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. It was a cold rainy sunday night, I was in my office, listening to a baseball game, when the phone rang: It was Fire Investigator David Nolke, of the FDNY Bureau Of Fire Investigation who was the lead investigator on the Sea Captain Cafe Fire, a popular Brooklyn seafood restaurant .that night still haunts me to this day. See that guy in the blue Italian cut suit, with the black tie/shoes/hat talking to fire captain over by the fire truck? that's me, Det. Sgt. Blake Smith, NYPD. The man Im talking to, FDNY Captain Michael A Lysne, commander of Engine Company 59/ Ladder Company 77 (the Wolf Pack) in the firehouse across the street, a good friend of mine and fellow Marine Corps Vietnam veteran. "Sure, is going to be a long night, old friend, Mike says wiping sweat and soot from his face. " what's you got Mike? I asked him. Mike said "follow me, as we entered what was left of the cafe, fire crews were still putting out hot spots, then when we enter the kitchen, that's when we found 3 tarps, Mike uncovered them: 3 bodies were found. when i got the autopsy report, they were dead before the fire ever started. this was now was a triple homicide and arson case.

People always ask me if I know Tyler Durden. "Three minutes. This is it. Ground zero. Do you have a speech for the occasion?" With a gun barrel between your teeth, you speak only in vowels. "I can't think of anything!" For a second, I forgot about Tyler's controlled demolition and wondered just how clean that gun really was. It was only beginning to get exciting. The old adage, how you always hurt the one you love? Well, it works both ways. We had front-row seats for the theatre of mass destruction. The Demolitions Committee of Project Mayhem wrapped the foundations of buildings with explosives. In two minutes, primary charges were about to blow base charges and a few blocks were to be reduced to smouldering rubble. I knew this because Tyler knew this. "Two and a half. Think of everything we've accomplished." Sitting there, I realized that all of it: the gun the bombs the revolution had got to do something with a girl named Marla Singer.

It was eight o’clock in my office and the booze was starting to run dry, the rains pitter patter against the window was a nice ambiance to the toons on the radio. Then she walked in. Just by the look of her I knew my night would turn around. She wore jet black eye shadow and crimson red lipstick with legs that stretched from New York to Vegas. Dead husband, another widow with a case to solve. I should have said I was closed and look at me now, half drunk with a case of murder on my shoulders. How luck can truly kick you in the head sometimes.

So you wanna find the missing tuna, huh? What's it worth to ya? "3 seconds later when someone gave me a cocktail* Cocktail. Delightful. Alright. Here's what l know. I've seen 2 men. Couldn't make out their faces but there was somethin'. Somethin' fishy. Then they placed it in the leather bag, placed the bag in the back seat of their car, and drove off. Let's just say that there was raw tuna in the bag. Too much heat warps the fish, so they put it in the freezer. Their cat saw it. You wanna know where they went? I'm gonna need an extra drink. "4 seconds later when someone gave me beer" Beer. Yeah. That's nice. They went that way, to New York.

‘’’it ain’t easy being the center of attention, as if one rainy night of 7:06 of October 31 1968, in New Mexico I was stationed as a detective at Jule Archibald’s one in night hotel, Years passed and I still became aware of a killer around town, Dr Fritz Rales, But all changed on March 18, a body was found on Room AR4 . Victim: Jenny Rales Age: 45 As I looked at the body and the injured police officer, Another cop mocked me and my brother Sergeant Fead As I asked the injured man “what was he driving “ Said the injured man “AMBULANCE HE WAS DRIVING A GODDAMN AMBULANCE “ that’s all I needed to hear said I As I flored on the car, sergeant Fead tried to send a message on the radio I doubted it would work, but life throws you a zinger As the man was talking I could hear him getting stabbed and killed As I asked Sergeant Fead What street was it He answered “Purgatory “ I drifted turning around and flored it [Part 2 coming soon]

Was a November foggy night, one of those damned ones foggy nights that you need a butcher knife to cut off the myst between you and the unknown beyond. My Buick kicked me up in the lamest slum of all the rotting Big Apple, a place out of any God's Grace, unoticed even on the phone book. Was walking between Bodoni Memorial Avenue and Chalkboard Street, when a heavenly vision made flesh appeared to me under a lone public lamp. Her scent smelled of a chorus of angels and saints... and she brought me tons of troubles like a magnet actracts metal objects... Her man was Jimmy Mannaro, alias The Hell's Kitchen Butcher. One of the NYPD most wanted guns contraband bosses. They nicknamed him The Butcher for he was the owner of a slaughterhouse... and for he slew three Al Capone's guys... by a meat cleaver. Between me and his chick... a case of a missing little girl, a mysterious bag and my Smith & Wesson .38mm. Let start the party. When all the young men and ladies dance the boogie woogie in the music halls, I'm gonna dance with the Grim Reaper...

Finally, it's 4am and the streets of Trenton, nj will have their 3 hours of dead silence before the morning dawn opens its light. Until then, I'll enjoy the sound of nothing. The silence is the cities daily plight to heal from its savages, grimy dames, drug dealers, and it's killers. All of which, call this reckless city home.

The lovely September night breeze, comin’ through my window of September 1947. Just got off of this real case, sure as the night. So there I was, in my office enjoying a shot of bourbon and a smoke. Cleanin’ and loadin’ my girl, Thompson. Waitin’ for trouble, until I hear a knock on my door. In comes trouble..trouble as they come. The breeze passing by me from my window, making her hair flow like I ain’t ever seen before. Her perfume covered the smell of my smoke, with a taste of lust in the air. I coulda sworn it was just the night breeze. But the question was, were any of us gonna do anything ‘bout it?

When it’s big, people write things in books, say that’s what happened, and call it history. When it’s not so big, people write things in the paper, say that’s what happened, and call it a news story. The truth, well, that’s a little more complicated…..
