Hey just so you know Lotr was not the inspiration of dnd, in fact, Gary gygax hated lotr so much because of how boring he found it I once commented that he would like to “throttle Frodo” the true inspirations for dnd came from more, how you say, “unhinged” sources such a conhan the barbarian.
@Fallenmonkd2016 күн бұрын
He also said in the same article he loved the Hobbit, obviously there's a lot of inspiration from other old fictional works like Conan and H.P. Lovecraftian horror novels, but with the primary races and a lot of the monstdrs straight lifted from Lotr, it's hard to deny how much influence it really had.
@dargo118317 күн бұрын
Gary Gygax didn't like Lord of the rings. Gygax was inspired by Jack Vance while developing the spell systems and also drew upon the work of such renowned fantasy authors as Robert E. Howard, L. Sprague de Camp and Fritz Leiber.

The dynamic of the main trio in Castlevania is best adaption of a DnD party I've seen. I'm pretty sure I once heard that the creation of the Overlord series is the author feeling sad about his DnD group not being able to get together. Then there's Legend of Vox Machina. Which is just flat out based on a DnD campaign

I've always felt that Delicious in Dungeon is actually a grimdark setting that is not being taken seriously by the play group but the DM is trying to keep the tone. Every NPC outside of the group are all serious and full of plotting, and the magic system is brutal, but the players really just can't help but be wholesome.
@rannenw620717 күн бұрын
I mean you have seen some of the episodes it get fucking dark quick.
@obscuritymage17 күн бұрын
@@rannenw6207 exactly but the wholesome attitude of the core party endures despite it. It's very Slavic in terms of the kind of grim dark it is. Everything sucks but there's a tiny glint of hope.

You want some good examples of visual media that show how most d&d games run? Look up the old anime slayers. All three seasons. Then watch Monty Python and the holy Grail. Then watch it again while drunk. Then watch it again while hungover. Then watch the Riddick movies and recognize that the character of Riddick is literally Vin Diesel's ranger character from his d&d game. Then get drunk again and watch the old anime series bastard!, and remember what it was like to be an extremely hormonal teenage boy. You're welcome.

Yes and no. Yes in theory inflation is causing book prices to rise which reduces the number of new players which reduces actions taken by players, hurting the community's overall action economy. However! since WOTC burned all of the communities Goodwill and have printed terrible books for years now this has lead to the expected effect of no one is buying their books anyway. In conclusion: NO inflation has not had any effect on action economy.
@supersmily5811Ай бұрын
Other ttrpgs often have something akin to "action points" wherein you can take a bunch of actions per turn but each is less powerful or powerful actions may take multiple "points." So yes, inflation affects the action economy, and measures have to be taken to secure the value of actions, like in D&D where they refuse to change the system no matter how much that simplicity hurts it.
