I discovered this by accident but to anyone who lives in the northern states with colder climates if you really really desire grasshoppers you can get a few gasket sealing tubs and add a fine mesh ventilation, and go collect dirt from the edge of grassy fields. Only the top 2-3"s and put that in the tubs and after a month or 2 at room temp kept 50%-80% humid and room temps or higher and grasshoppers will hatch out if you pick from a good spot you'll get a lot. I did that last year with a small amount to fill a empty spinach container and had 20 hatch out with in a month or 2. You can get grasshoppers this way by April if you take advantage of one of the random warm days we have sometimes in winter.

I started with the glass cage n a fogger n lights that were sold to me with him but I'm not happy with what I was sold. I feel it was a sales pitch n I just said yes. The more I search on how to care for him always stays with his cage n I just want my Panther Chameleon to have the best of the best. Can you please HELP ME🥺💯🙏

Our panther chameleon, "Toadette" is now 7 months old. We hatched her from an egg. She's been eating about one superworm per day, along with maybe 4-5 giant mealworms a day. She is very healthy & fat! Today I noticed a bunch of the giant mealworms have pupated, not a problem! She devours them too. Then she climbed down her cage & started eating pieces of the Peperomia/Pilea Depressa "Bany Tears". She only took a few bites. But still I was concerned because they are not known for eating greens. After watching this video, I see that a lot of Veiled Chameleons will eat plants known to be toxic, with no adverse reactions. So I guess I shouldn't be too concerned. If there is any reaction, I'll be sure to post it here. She also climbs down & eats dirt. Not much, but I worry about " too much roughage". Thank you for the ongoing support, I watch the Chameleon Academy religiously, this is the first time I've commented.

Is the chameleon academy Arboreal L Enclosure - 36L x 24W x 48H a good enclosure for my first chameleon ever?
@ChameleonAcademy10 күн бұрын
Yes, that would be great for a first chameleon. The one aspect of the Arboreal L is that it is designed for a deep substrate. So if you want to work with a naturalistic setup then that will give you the depth. If you want a clear floor then the Dragon Strand Tall Hybrid would be a good start. But I do love my Arboreal L. I am growing some Monstera in there. Now you do not have to put in a substrate. Just purchase it with the drain option and you are good. But there would be a significant lip at the bottom.

I’m an experienced reptile owner but new to chameleons, I however did a lot of research, your videos are great but I you kinda make it seem like if your chameleon gets sick the owner is bad. Kinda feel like your talking to people like they are stupid. Appreciate the info but just a thought.

What do you recommend I use to lift up the linear UVB fixture so it’s not directly on top of the cage?
@ChameleonAcademy12 күн бұрын
You can use something as simple as a cut piece of 2x4 lumber or buy a specially created 3D printed stand off from Etsy

What has worked for my Jacksons female in keeping her SCREEN CAGE enclosure cool enough at night in my AZ home is this. Cut a hole in the top of the cage just so your FOGGER HOSE fits in up to the first rib. I like to put it in the back corner, opposite my lamp. AT NIGHT crank it to 40-50% and cover the enclosure top down with a blanket or towel, leaving about 30% of the bottom of the enclosure open. My girl absolutely loves this ❤ lmk your results :)

Hi, this is Marty from MistKing. Great video ! However the oring does not go against the nut. It goes on the outside of the reservoir against the non movable part of the bulkhead, the nut just compresses it to make it water tight. The way in the video you could have a leak through the thread. Bulkhead is metal and it squeezes very hard so you may have gotten lucky in this case, but it's probably the solid part squeezing against the bucket that's preventing the leak. Easy to remember - oring not against the nut :)
@ChameleonAcademy13 күн бұрын
I will correct this going forward
@MistKing13 күн бұрын
theoretically you could do this without an o-ring and just squeeze the bucket hard enough to make it watertight. Metal bulkhead is one of the differences going from older ver4 to ver5. We are running out of things to improve LOL
@ChameleonAcademy13 күн бұрын
@@MistKing I LOVE the metal bulkhead. That was a great improvement!
@ChameleonAcademy13 күн бұрын
Btw, another obscure reason to love Mist King - the screw threads for the mister stem go all the way up to the top. This allows enough room for your nozzles to be installed on higher end enclosures that have thicker top panels. Something as simple as that has made a huge difference for me.

I would also make sure you are not too close in proximity to your chameleons or cars. Overspray is a thing even with a small gust of wind your significant others might get a free unwanted paint job from your chameleon hobby.

this is great.! Do you think I could do this for a panther chameleon here in Houston Texas?
@ChameleonAcademy13 күн бұрын
This works great for my panthers. I am not familiar with the weather in Houston, though. You would just have to make sure you had options during weather extremes.

Regard the cohabitation: what if they are a couple male and female chameleons? Is it considered as a negative cohabitation ?
@ChameleonAcademy15 күн бұрын
Chameleons will get together and mate and then break up. Though there are instances where the male will stick around and guard the female from other males. This is not a bonding, though. So the answer is that male and female should be brought together only for mating and then put back into their individual cages. A visual barrier between them is also a good idea.
