Just bought a '21 for my 15 year old daughter. First thing I look at is the oil change vids and I was lucky to stumble on this one first. Thank you for listing drain plug size and all necessary numbers. This reminds me of my Xterra so much. Super easy. I actually torque my drain bolts because I have been known to be a little too persuasive because I work on Freightliners lol. Thank you for the great detail and excellent video!

Very nice job! Very nice video. 👍🏻 I do my own oil changes as well. Try Amsoils oil and filter kit. It’s on the expensive side but it’s worth it if you hold on to your vehicles for a long time. That 4Runner is pretty sweet if you keep taking care of it like that it will last forever.

My 20 year old Matrix has zero leaks since e bought it new. My Brother just bought a 2024 Rav4, at 400 miles he had an oil leak. They had to drop the oil pan and replace the gasket. Not making them like the old days.

If you REALLY want to take “good” care of your 4Runner, (or any Toyota) You should really use Toyota or at minimum a premium brand oil. But you will NEVER go wrong with using the factory oil. Even CCN says, don’t use aftermarket parts or fluids if at all possible. Then they will last 1,000,000 miles.

I have a question, I'm doing an oil change myself for the first time on my 2020 expedition, it has 102000 thousand and wanted to keep using the Motorcraft brand but realized after going to a few local stores that that i couldn't find the high mileage so i called the dealership and they told me that there is no high mileage on Motorcraft so should i use the regular 5w 30 Motorcraft or should i go with a different brand that has high mileage not sure if that would make any difference. Thank you

I'm looking at a 2002 Rav4 with 145k miles. It is spotless but it has an automatic transmission so I want to inspect the crap out of that! I wanted to buy this to drive while I am replacing the transmission in my GMC Sierra. Plus we wanted to get my wife a small SUV and this would be the perfect car if the transmission isn't bad. I'm hoping the previous owner had it replaced under the extended warranty that Toyota had on these.

Nice video and thank you. Normally I don't comment but not for nothing, you SHOULD fill that filter with oil. Yes, I know the connection is SIDEWAYS and you'll more than likely gett a wee bit of spillage but it's BETTER than putting a dry filter on. YES, it has been PROVEN to be VERY BENEFICIAL due to pressure build lagging by ~6 seconds to first fill that filter and thereby lacking in the engine. You will promote unnecessary wear to the piston cylinder walls if you don't. Like saving a QUARTER a day. A QUARTER is neglible but after 20 years you'll have $1,825.

Great video, thanks for posting this, like another person commented that this is the best video so far with your clear explanations on all the steps. Just one question, I noticed you said you changed your oil at 3,000 miles? Or 6 months? So you don't do it every 5,000 miles (due to driving habits) or every 10,000 miles like Toyota recommends. BTW, nice well lit garage!

This is a very detailed explanation. Thanks. The only thing that I don't agree with is that you're changing your oil every 3k miles. Isn't that overdoing it? Specially with full synthetic which toyota recommends every 7,500 to 10,000 miles and 3000 to 5000 for conventional oil. It's your money, just something to point out.

I actually just leave the original washer on it and re-use it. I do the same thing with my filter, just let it drain out slowly without taking that small cap out.

Just a heads up. You don't have to roll the windows down first. When you put the top down, it does it automatically. When putting the top up and down, you never have to touch your door panel.

Great video. The only thing I’d add is to get the skid plate bolts in by hand before hitting it with an impact. My local dealership was kind enough to NOT do that and cross threaded the bolts. Great video

I checked my cabin filter in my Rav4 XSE after 4 years of driving. I was quite dirty but very clean compared to this one. I just vacuumed the worst of the dirt and ordered one online which will come in in a few days & I will change it then. I checked the air filter for the engine & it looked just like new even after 4 years (I did check this filter about 18 months ago) I don't drive in dusty areas or in dirt roads....... I'll check it again in a couple years if I still own it as I may trade it in for a new Rav4.

I am using 0W-20 in my 2024 Rav for Summer. It gets HOT in Tulsa! We often sit in Park and idle to run the AC. I figure a little more film strength will be beneficial. The Manual indicates this is OK if extraordinary conditions are encountered! I change oil every 90 days just because.
