I too was the impulse all the way party guy till 3.5, then I completely stopped downloading IRs on the internet entirely and stuck with the stock cabs since. I also do use a parametric EQ at the end of my signal chain, but it's not the problem with the Helix modeling because that is also what happens in the real world with real recording of all of these 3 grand and up dollar amps as well. That's just what happens when microphones are involved and miked up amp tones is what modelers are modeling in the frist place. And who cares if Helix is out dated? it does almost everything that every guitarist needs on stage and recording session. People say that only to justify their immature spending habits.

I just bought Total Studio 4 max, and I hate this GUI and navigation. It's too cluttered. Amplitube 5 is a waaaaay better GUI and navigation. I don't spend 2 hours playing with an interface. That's time better spent creating music. Tonex max👎

Someone needs to make an FM9 equivalent with NAM and find a way to do it for like $699-ish. True stereo effects and outputs with 8-10 footswitches.

Really great 🔝 I've been going crazy for years, I couldn't get any sound at breakup because when I raised the gain of the amplifiers after 5 the sound distorted badly. And I couldn't insert overdrive or distortion for the same reason. I had already tried to set the gain of the sound card to 0 and I felt that it was better, but the sound seemed too thin and so I thought it wasn't correct, since the manuals say to reach a certain threshold. But with this demonstration video you have removed all my doubts and so I set the input that arrives around -20db and I have finally solved all the problems. Really thanks for this test 🙏🙏🙏

Your videos are great! Just bought my tonex pedal and love it. Some issues I wonder if you can point me to a video that can help. Switching amps in midi was super easy but my patches sound terrible in my monitors! I’m constantly tweaking amp volume and model volume. If the amp gain goes to high it’s boomy and hear no highs. When it’s down things get muddy. If my monitors on stage are set low I’m re adjusting through the show and chews up time. Maybe someone can help me I’m a noobie to the pedal!

Honestly, pretty much all gear sounds good today. We are in a golden age of guitars and gear, and line 6 has done an a killer job in keeping up with everyone. I have 3 different versions of a Friedman be-100 from my hx stomp, tonex pedal capture, and a plugin from ML sound lab. They all sound good in their own way and they can get pretty close to sounding the same which is crazy because the helix family is much older. I actually bought my stomp this year and I only got the tonex pedal because I was hitting the dsp limits pretty quickly, but it’s a solid unit.

I’m a bit fan of fender-type clean tones so I usually use the spring reverb (I forget what it’s called) but I’m curious if there’s any ones you really like/think sound great with cleans. (Ps I’m the guy who recognized you when you were in Miami a few months back! Hope all is well! 🙂)

I’ve come to the conclusion that tone is down to the player, these days all of the units are so good that you can get equally great tone out of any of them if you know what you’re looking for. All this talk of fractal v helix v kemper v quad cortex etc it’s all sales pitch pretty much now and the real question is which suits the person more imo…..this is coming from an amp and pedal guy who 1yr ago decided to give the Helix a go in a live situation . I’ve never looked back since. I’d used it for recording 4 albums but never live but now it does what I want it to do without any fuss.

I use this feature to toggle reverb decay from a low time to a long time or to toggle the reverb mix amount. This also works well for amp settings on a single amp. If you assign two settings to the same switch say gain and channel volume. This allows a quick change from low gain / high gain.

The problem with IRs is that they obviously dont sound like an amp in a room which we all know and love. I bought 5 different IR packs and only 1 IR sounded just like my cab at home. Now I am more than happy. But finding the right IR can make the Helix experience a bit frustrating considering how much a cab contributes to the tobe and feel.
@nachodaisuki91
@nachodaisuki91 7 сағат бұрын
No. The problem is you expecting Helix and modelers in general to do what they weren't meant to do in the first place. They are never meant to sound like anything close to amp alone in a room in the first place. lol They are modeling miked up amps, not amps alone in a room. And if you don't know the difference in the sound of miked up amps vs amps alone in a room, I dunno what to tell you.
@Hyperspeed1000
@Hyperspeed1000 6 сағат бұрын
@@nachodaisuki91 Its not that they are not meant to…its the fact that they literally cant. Since the Cabs are not modeling technology (unlike amps) but a set if IRs behind a GUI you always end up having a mic that acts like an additional filter. So instead of being passive-aggressive and accusing ppl of not knowing the difference you should accept that ppl may just not like that sound in general and are free to voice that opinion even when they know exactly how the helix functions.
@nachodaisuki91
@nachodaisuki91 5 сағат бұрын
@@Hyperspeed1000 Of course people can have preferences. But that doesn't mean what they don't like is problematic. Modelers are doing what they are meant to do in the first place with no problem. The problem is people thinking modelers suck because they don't do what they aren't even meant to do in the first place. Sounding like a real amp in a room.

Even if we compare the sound of different modellers with each other through the same impulse responses etc, maybe the workflow, editor system, effects suite, pedalboard or lack thereof etc may not meet our needs all around anyway so it is sometimes a bigger decision or in some players cases they may choose to have some or all of them in the arsenal. For me at the time the Helix worked and continues to work great for me. Modelling is something that I think I've always been waiting for and didn't know it. A way to get the sound of amps miked up without blowing out the windows all the time.

I find these arguments ridiculous. Sound is, perhaps, 95% subjective. There's a few things we can all agree on, like how digital distortion is bad, but for the most part we do not agree. People go gaga over Vox tones. I find them annoyingly harsh. And I'm sure that there's no end to the people who absolutely hate the kinds of tones I like. So here we are, arguing about personal preference, as if our personal preference is somehow factual. How you achieve your sound does not matter. Only thing that matters about any tool, be it a real amp, or a pedal, or a modeller, is if it allows you to actualise in reality that tone in your head. I mean, look at Willie Nelson's Trigger. How many of us would pick that beat up crappy acoustic guitar with a hole in it and call it the holy grail of guitars? Not one of us, except Willie Nelson. What for us would be garbage, for that man is worth more than gold. And the same goes for all of us. Don't listen to someone telling you that a bit of kit is garbage. What does he know? He's not you. Try it out. It might just be your holy grail. Or maybe not. Just cause it works for others doesn't mean it works for you. Just do you.
