This makes me feel so much better about my service dog in training! I’m always self conscious about how she’s not perfect and because she’s part Aussie she holds her ears back like that and I always worry that means shes anxious because I’m used to dogs with ears that fall straight down

1: I love your videos 2: A tip for you as a new service dog handler,you should check out over the shoulder dog leash that way you don’t have to hold the leash and you are able to use one hand to push the cart and your other hand to give Astro treats or to pick up food.I hope this helps

I have POTS and I have my SD do DPT on my side. So while I’m laying down she will do DPT on my arms and then lay her head on my chest or stomach area. She’s a 70 lbs golden and she does the elbow thing. She also doesn’t want to hurt me so she wants to be on my side instead. She dislocated my hips before from wrong DPT since I have EDS too.

im a POC handler and i agree with the “holding standard”… im in a very nice neighborhood (not a lot of other POC’s) and i find that being disabled and a POC is exhausting because i get treated different! enjoy your content and Astro is sooo good! definitely will take some notes on how you edit because my content needs better editing lol

I understand that you don’t like the patch so I recommend you buying other patches that you like so people understand that he’s a service dog and that way they don’t have to ask you questions about him. People can just read his vest and understand that he’s a working dog and he’s not there for their attention. He’s there to help you. that’s what I do with my service dog in training and people seem to be really respectful and it works really well.

He is such a beauty! I've been seriously looking at this breed but concerned about all the fur...yours has a beautiful coat, far less than many I've seen.

My girl hates fireworks too. Last new years she ran under our shed and wouldn’t come out for about an hour, then when we finally did get her inside she hid under my bed and cried for the rest of the night, even after they were over.

Ik this is a long time ago but for people asking questions make personal throw away cards and just give them to anyone who is wanting to or is ask(ing) a lot of questions put one side full of info on your dog like breed,tasks, and what kind of service dog they are and on the other side put sd laws that commonly are broken by random people like distracting, asking about the handler’s disability, and any others you would like to mention then at the bottom put the Ada.gov so people can get more info on there themselves or a QR code if you know how to make them❤( hope this helps!)

I have a dog and a cat! They sometimes sleep together, and they’re best buddies. If Astro is gentle, and doesn’t have super high prey drive, I definitely recommend getting a cat.

My guess is that he tasks in public the best because that is where you yourself are less comfortable and more anxiety therefore Astro is more focused on you and what's going on with you and around you. At home there is much less to make you anxious and Astro knows this. It seems like maybe he "turns on work mode" better in public because of that. I could be wrong, just my thoughts. You guys are still doing wonderful and Astro is an amazing good boy!

It's so aggravating when every person who passes you wants to spend half an hour talking when they wouldn't give you the time of day if your dog weren't with you. On the other hand, you dont want to be so standoffish that people feel they can't approach you at all. We need relationships too! It's a crazy tightrope dance! 🤔
