I know this song mostly cause I once saw a tv program featuring a caveman playing hockey and having his tooth knocked out by the puck.

You are brainless because ART itself can depict whatever feelings it conveys to you, on a personal level. You're offended because you think you should be. You are a sheep with a weak mind and no spine. It's fine because as adults, it what we should be allowed to choose to do in our adult lives.

Shows how lame society has gotten. This criticism of the clip is pretty lame. Like others said if you don’t like something turn it off and move on with your life. Hell plenty of people have this as a standard Friday night. Think to many people are way to sheltered today

But you never tell us what the hell the song is about. You just say that Brandon is Mr. Brightside, and it’s about his gf. That’s not very specific. What exactly happened?

Also worth mentioning that the original demo was called "Virtual Reality" and most likely was about building relationships via online communication, which only works via cables and wouldn't be possible otherwise. Since it was recorded back in 1997, the track "pink ego box" has a similar message. Also there's a possibility it's just about sex toys.

Dude your comments are dumb. It’s like watching Saw movie and complaining that killing people is bad. It’s a fucking movie just enjoy it or don’t. Same goes for music. If you don’t like it just don’t listen to it.
@srj607able5 ай бұрын
The fact that it is banned now And many peeps commenting on it , just shows how yt what to get more grip in their influence on controlling peeps. I saw the clip as kiddo on mtv. Loved it . I’m not a hardcore prodigy fan. But smack my b I cth up is my favorite. Because I used that song after work going home fast in my car. And yes I understand everything what was shown in the clip, made me older and understanding adults life without cringe, at the end of clip seeing it was a chick made me respect chicks more, because in the 80 and 90 you had some crazy chicks doing this. And men respected that. For me , the song was already badass. Then I watched the MTV music clip… I fell in love with prodigy. Because they were showing something of a feeling of EU kids. Prior to the 90 in Europe. The 80 was dominated by American soft power… the good and bad of it. But early 2000 mid 2000… the marvel cancer happened…. In the 80, 90, 2000 . In Europe we just wanted to have fun , liberty and creative freedom … we had that … but after 2008… the Americans took over and just formatted everything to their standards … Now you wonder why everyone hates Hollywood movies and besides Taylor swift… American soft power is ded.

It actually dates back further because the first performance, not the v we know today, was 1995, and Matt wrote Hyper Music when he was 14 and I’ve seen more interviews where Matt said one’s lines about your ex, then another is about technology then yh, it’s Matt but the funny thing first time listening to it you interpret it and understand it to some sort, I’ll be honest the first time I heard it it sounded like the chorus was about sex but the verses weren’t but rlly literally I thought talking about an ex who’s cheating on him, then the last falsetto to me is about Matt feeling dissociated with people because they are getting sucked up into technology

The crazy thing is, it's not even the string part that was sampled, it's a far more subtle background melody. At the time, they could have edited the sample out and probably done just fine with the song.

Was this the first song from the album? Or was that just in the UK? Wasn't Somebody Told Me the first song in the US?
@squirrelmanning788910 ай бұрын
You totally missed the main issue. Nobody in the USA wanted to know. It was only when a UK record label showed interest, they travelled to the UK and did some gigs and got signed to Lizard King that the US labels started fighting to sign them. Mr Brightside was not even the first release in the US, Somebody Told Me was. Mr Brightside was the first release in the UK (copies of that are hot property as only 500 were pressed). Mr Brightside was re-released in the US after Somebody Told Me.

It was pretty funny because it exposed the double standards. Sure, it was provacative at the time, but it was definitely a clever joke towards the easily offended media and public.
