My friend, I really need help. I am originally a pharmacist but the board has so many restrictions to equivalent my degree here which makes me to work for amazon warehouse for 4 years now. I have a lot of skills in computer. I worked on several projects and I am really an ambitious person and I feel really depressed and disappointed being in Amazon for 4 years and not using my degree nor my computer skills that I used to build for 17 years now. I am 36 years old and living all by myself that can't see my family because I can't go back to country and they can't come to see me. Please help me to start a career in pharm info or even tech in a pharmaceutical company or anything related to my skills or degree. I am not picky, I just want anything better than Amazon as my back hurts too much lately and I am really helpless with no one to help. I promise I wouldn't type this message if I was being in a better state but I am falling apart with no one around to help me out. Thanks a lot 🙏🏻

Hey Brian, I am egyptian pharmacist graduated 2014 that been in love with technology and programming for 17 years now and working on my equivalency here in the US. I really love to work in a field that gather both worlds. I know alot of programming languages and have a lot of projects. Do you still recommend to pursue this pathway 2 years later of your video? Is it worth it? Does it pay better than retail pharmacist? What do you suggest me to study or certification needed to continue proceed in the IP career? Thanks in advance ☺️

They aim to advance interoperability throughout the world - yet they dont offer any free training options - such a gross disconnect and a shame - I understand charging to administer the exam - but there should be a free on demand course that any kid looking to advance healthcare interoperability should be able to take for free - Right now one would have to fork over over 1000$ to take all the course - not everyone has that kind of money - shameful
@briankfung
@briankfung 13 күн бұрын
A very fair observation. A couple of comments: 1. Nothing in this world is free. The time it takes to create and delivery value has a cost, so I think it'd be unfair to ask HL7 to provide free on demand courses, regardless of their goals. Everyone needs a way to make money to put food on the table. 2. HL7 provided FHIR as an open standard that they maintain and allow reuse. Their documentation is actually quite good on www.hl7.org/fhir/. Everyone with access to the internet can learn it - for free. 3. HL7 provides discounted prices to individuals that may not be able to afford it. Especially those from low or middle income countries. Related to #2, no one NEEDS to take these classes to learn FHIR. Anyone can learn FHIR for free by reading the website. 4. Despite the 3 comments above, my goal is to provide as much GUIDED resources as possible on KZfaq because, I do strongly believe that democratizing access to good education is important to contribute to global healthcare interoperability. At the same time, I also spend my personal free time and resources away from family, friends, and personal health to do it. Because of that, I feel free that anyone should be able to charge whatever they want for their time when it comes to guided/curated resources since FHIR itself, is free.

Hi Brian, can you please give us a snapshot to work with FHIR? job availability?
@briankfung
@briankfung 3 ай бұрын
This is a great question! I'm actually not sure. I don't imagine there is a great way to measure how many jobs there are out there that will require it either. Two things though: 1) I think the technical folks who are deep in the weeds will notice fhir-related jobs sooner relative to clinical folks because FHIR is generally targeted towards developers, and 2) clinical folks, especially those that work in informatics, should likely see it trickle into job descriptions over time.
@R0H00
@R0H00 3 ай бұрын
@@briankfung Hi, thanks for the response. For the clinical folks; what are the roles they actually play? Is it desk related data input type jobs similar to Pharmacovigilance in case of pharma products? What about the remuneration? TIA
@briankfung
@briankfung 2 ай бұрын
It's probably all over the board since FHIR is so new - and the clinical folks in FHIR are so new. Pros and cons since the world is our oyster in that we can probably define our own roles. Though, I think the way HL7 laid out their foundation Exam can be used to get an idea of the types of roles that could be available: architect, developer, analyst, and profiler. As to your question about desk-related data inputs. I'd think that'd be a terrible position for someone with a clinical background. I'd think clinical folks getting into roles where FHIR is required would be a very specialized position and not a simple data inputs role. Renumeration probably differs quite a bit. I'd guess the minimum would be six figures going beyond for unique roles in certain industries like pharma and tech.
@R0H00
@R0H00 2 ай бұрын
@@briankfung Hi, thanks for sharing your thoughts and I completely agree with your answer (especially 2nd part). However, as your answers are more guesstimate than actual fact. I would highly highly request you to make a video about it inviting guests who can talk about some of the roles and what are their day to day be like doing what and remuneration range.
@briankfung
@briankfung 14 күн бұрын
It's a great idea and I'll add it to my backlog. Though, to be completely transparent, I'm prioritizing education vs. job searches at the moment. Plenty of individuals and resources that can help guide candidates looking for jobs; extremely rare to find resources to train qualified individuals for those jobs. Thus, my focus is on creating education. LinkedIn and Glassdoor might provide some insight into salaries though.
