Great video. With the completion of the tunnelling, the slurry plant has been demolished and work should be underway on the tunnel lining factory and storage area. Last to go will be the viaduct sections factory. The whole site is now being landscaped and, on completion, it will be more of a natural landscape than before as an old quarry has been filled in with the tunnel spoil.

What we see at 4:09 reminds me of Knebworth in 1990 when nobody could face queueing for the lats. It wasn't while Sir Cliff was doing 'In the Country', which was a memorable musical happenening, because that was quite early on but I think the yellow river at the side of the site was in full flow by the time Page and Plant came on.

@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg
@TrevorWilliams-fq8mg 27 күн бұрын
That right. It's over budget for several reasons. The first reason is the budget was a random figure pulled out of the air by HS2. Then there are a multitude of reasons due to the impossibility of anyone being able to put a proper budget in place. For example thousands of unknown planning conditions, thousands of services diversions, highway alterations and method statements to be agreed with statutory authorities where their infrastructure are impacted upon, such as building bridges over Network Rail's rail tracks.
@davecardboard9567

The noise barriers on the CVV are at varying heights and materials (solid vs transparent) at different points depending on the required noise performance. From memory, the ones on the west side at the northern end needed to be of more "taller and solid" design due to the proximity of some buildings.

Yes, QM. It does appear that the acoustic barrier is lower on the lake side. I'm guessing this is to provide any future travellers with a better eyeball on the water world below them before, after 38 seconds, they are plunged back into darkness via the Copthall and Northolt tunnels. If they don't blink for a few seconds they might catch a glimpse of the Breakspear Arms and River Pinn. Hopefully the perspex that goes on top of the acoustic barrier will provide a level finish to the whole thing. I think they will be for pressure relief - like the 'porous portals' they have on the Chiltern Tunnel. High speed train tunnels - such as the one at Long Itchington have to be very big to prevent a large build-up of air pressure in front of a train. Having frequent vents allows the air to escape meaning the tunnel can be smaller. Another thing to consider is that this is a double track tunnel - unlike most HS2 tunnels that are two single line. Two trains passing each other at high speed create very high air pressure.

Interesting footage as always, QM👍 At 4:20 we see the parapet sections lined up ready to go. In your previous video at 1.17 we can see sections lined up on the London side. I can find no visual evidence of these sections being manufactured on the Western Slopes site and, call me sad for being such an HS2 nerd, can't find any reference online for who was awarded the contract to produce them or where they come from. They are, after all, an integral part of the finished article. If they ARE produced on site it would mean the pile at the London end has been bussed round from Chalfont Lane because, as evidenced by Peter the Rock's video from under the Grand Union span, there is and has never been a haul road over the canal. The viaduct became the haul road once the canal had been bridged - not much use if you're simply trying to get parapet sections from the Western Slopes area to the shore of Harefield No.2. Keep 'em coming ...
