Best most accurate video for visuals on where and why to install or fix install of hose. Need a 3/4” emt clamp from electrical dept in home depot, lowes or supply store and 1/4 “ screw and an electric screwdriver (easiest or manual). Ideal to to have 32" in height as per most manufacturers recommendations. Based on what I have read air gaps can work but over time they generally leak so should be a good solution. We just purchased a new GE profile and they did not loop the hose :( so we need to do it. Also the sanitize light is not going on. not sure if the drainage has something to do with it. Our old dishwasher can a feature to pump water extra out of the basin this one has extra heaters etc but some of the glass items were wet. Out water heater is at 145 so thats not not the issue.

Garbage disposals are gross and nasty !! I can tell a house has one as soon as I walk in a house, they stink. If you don't think they stink then you're you either don't have a nose or you love the smell of rotting food...

The dishwasher drain can be installed directly into a waste pipe the same way without the disposal so you don't have to use a stinky disposal if you don't want too!

My dishwasher sits above the deep sink in the basement. I could drain it there really easy. What is the downside?
@inspectinghomes
@inspectinghomes Жыл бұрын
Draining it directly into a sink is not typically recommended. It can clog a drain I think is the primary reason

I'm surprised to hear that air-gaps are "overkill"... guess I've always lived in jurisdictions where they're required. Thanks for the explanation!

They are better don’t get me wrong but living in an area where they are not required and not seeing many issues that’s just my impression

how does it shut off the water? Do I turn it in or out to shut off the water to my refrigerator?
@inspectinghomes
@inspectinghomes Жыл бұрын
from another source - To shut off a saddle valve, start by locating the handle. The handle is usually red, and it will be in the same general area as the valve itself. Once you have located the handle, turn it clockwise until it is tight. This should stop the flow of water.

Thanks. I had the same question. I just had a new Lennox HVAC system installed with a humidifier. The water line comes from a saddle valve. I didn't know if the water was on or off. Now I do. @@inspectinghomes

My saddle nut is right next to my water heater, about 6 inches from it is a red round handle. Is that it for me? It looks like it's a handle that would shut off the water supply to the whole house. Is there NOT a specific shut off handle/knob specifically for the fridge water line like a knob under the sink for the cold/hot water supply?

does this mean I can remove my existing AirGap and create a high loop to utilize the existing 1 3/8 inch hole in my sink for other accessories?
@inspectinghomes
@inspectinghomes Жыл бұрын
Probably not. In most areas an actual air gap is not required and high loops are acceptable. My guess is, given you have an air gap, it was installed because it was required in your area. Most likely if its already there it would be a bad idea to remove it and technically speaking it is the best solution to potential backup.

Good video. Still possible for backups with that set up however if food particles become lodged in the DW pipe where it connects to the disposal.
