Thank you for adding this recording of Pete Drake's visit to record with George Harrison. He was so pleased that Peter Frampton was excited about the Talking Guitar. He left a 'talk box' for Peter at the studio.

Didn’t Pete give it to Joe Walsh then Joe gave one to Frampton?

Just truly listening to George Harrisons All Things Must Pass, and couldn't miss the brilliant pedal steel guitar playing on a couple of the songs. Who else but Pete Drake, a true master? Looks like the guys were pretty flabbergasted.

This album is lovely, released 1964. Unchained Melody at 13:38 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/r9Olq8aYr7Glf4E.htmlsi=OoqF3zGND2dxmvV7 . Use the "more" Button to see all the tracks . Pete Drake also did these albums to help other musicians and give them a bit of work , he used The Anita Kerr Singers on a lot of his "talking Guitar" albums and as you will hear, Pete didn't "hog" the tracks himself, the other musicians did the lions share with Pete Drake dropping in the Talking Steel Guitar in appropriate places....... Pete once said "I almost starved to death for a couple of years when I moved to Nashville". When he got famous ( and almost single handedly reopened the door for the Pedal steel guitar in Nashville after the instrument suffered a few years low demand because of Rock & Roll ) he always helped other up and coming ambitious musicians. To say Pete Drake was a prolific session musician is an understatement, in the 60s he was so much in demand for straight country steel guitar sessions he probably did more sessions than all the other steel guitarists put together ( five sessions a day at his peak ) .......he played on almost everybody's records.

Who was first? Alvino Rey or Pete Drake. Rey's effects ruled pop radio since the late 50's on so many "Pams", those copyrighted ID's like I grew up with on WLS Chicago. He kept it secret his wife did the mouth work. I remember seeing Pete on a TV show back then early 60's.
@onefootinthegroove39 Жыл бұрын
Rey invented the Sonovox in 1939 but that’s sadly forgotten by most. His whole moniker for years was “Alvino Rey and his Singing Guitar” which is probably why Pete was stuck with “Talking Guitar”.

Anyone know what year was this, and for what reason?? Fascinating.

1970 George Harrison's All Things Must Pass sessions. During a slow moment Pete Drake on pedal steel pulled out talk box to show to Peter Frampton.

The box was Bill West's invention. Bill's wife was Dottie West, and he played pedal steel with her band. Pete was the first to use it.

Amazing record. It’s not only the talk box but the combination with incredible pedal steel guitar skills. I came here after i watched “the pedal movie”. About the history of pedal effects and how it changed music forever. I totally recomend it.

I searched for this because I was reading Peter Frampton's book. He goes into this story and mentions this clip. Very enjoyable book. Frampton reads the audio book and imamates a lot of the artists he's worked with - Priceless!!!

Low tuning is far from being something new. Nasville always used it. The "djent" folks just added (a lot more) distortion to it.
