I think it makes the horse look stupid. It's not elegant. The riders look like clowns from 1902. This is so outdated. Why can't there be another sport for these horses. One more modern, and minus the animal cruelty and abuse.

If people knew anything about TWH breeding & training, they would understand that they cannot scream “soaring” on every horse they see. It is better to be unborn than untaught, for ignorance is the root of misfortune. The sheep who follow these false “animal protection” profits read from the same old script with no substance or facts. Do such ignorant people not comprehend how many inspections, thermal imaging checks, palpations and swabbings these trainers must go through before and after competing in each class? I have spent the last 30 years in and around the Tennessee Walking Horse industry, I have witnessed incredible practices done by trainers, breeders, veterinarians and horseshoers to insure my “Big Lick” walking horses have happy, safe and healthy environment. I have spent every available penny I had and many I didn’t at the time for their promotion, well-being and understanding among the novice horseman and enthusiast. I have stood by and watched the destruction of my breed by people who have never ridden, cared for, shod or studied these amazing animals “Ride with Pride”. I have watched calves going upwards of 20 miles per hour be ripped backwards by a rope and slammed to ground (Cheyenne, Reno, Houston, etc.…), and observed horses run until the legs shattered or their heart exploded, only to be euthanized on the racetrack to ease their misery (events too numerous to mention kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7dkZdlzlsy8j4E.html). I am not against the history of the “American Cowboy” at all, yet some of the top-rated television shows glorify the questionable treatment of calves, steers, foxes, coyotes, etc.… However, if you study any breed of horse, you will find poor methods of training and abuse. I believe several sanctioned horse races have been publicly exposed for drugging and other allegations of abuse. The best Tennessee Walkers are bred to produce a long rear stride and an elevated front throw. This is accentuated by pad stacks and heavier shoes to break the “pace” they are hopefully born with. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/grWqlqan39POZac.html watch the white horse with no action devices or pads) I have ridden TW horses who appeared to thrive on the noise of the crowd and the feeling of “one” that is experienced with a “big lick” and its’ rider. Most of the time, both could sense the energy, excitement, downright nerves and calm each other on their way to victory. For me to watch idiots and blowhards against the walking horse industry and its’ rich history, solely based on the practices of a few “bad apples” in the industry, makes my blood boil. These in many times are the same people who want to seek to defund or abolish the police because of a “King” or a “Floyd” incident. The “horse world” is naturally having a decline because of the cost of ownership and the fact that family traditions have died over the last 30 years. For example, just look at our national pastime in this country, many fans are not engaged, and parents quit sharing family experiences only to let their children play on their phones or gaming systems. Ask a real horse owner with a “Big Lick” or plantation shod horse how many hours are spent on such electronic luxuries. So, as I watch the debacle that the “Walking Horse” industry has to endure because of such people, I see that a couple of glory seeking, self-proclaimed halfwits are setting themselves up to destroy my beloved breed, industry, and God-given right to ride a “big lick”. I have but one mission left in my life, and that is to do my best to protect, restore and promote the walking horse industry, so with that being said, I want Mr. “Billy Please Go Boy” to understand he has not met the likes of this “Big Lick” enthusiast. The same privileges he uses to disrupt and weaken the Walking Horse industry, the association and a great pastime will be employed against him. He needs to be held accountable for the profits, glory and misguided “facts” that he exploits. I had an “Ebony’s Night Hawk” colt that used 6-ounce chains and with humane training methods from Joe Webb’s book “The Care and Training of the Tennessee Walking Horse” performed all the way to the title of “Two-Year-Old Reserve Champion”. The horse had an elegance and another level of confidence he displayed when competing in front of a crowd. He never came up lame, never was disqualified and never exhibited displeasure to the veterinarian at ANY time. I employed an experienced sanctioned horseshoer to travel over 200 miles to ensure that everything was done properly and safely, despite attending a blacksmithing education myself. My goal is to save the Tennessee Walking Horse both plantation-shod and padded. Their history is rich and elegant in so many ways, I want to give back to the breed that has given me so much. Thank you for reading & #FBGB

All trainers in Big Lick need to be treated just lick the train the horses! Cut the tendons in their arms, put caustic chemicals on their feet and ankles and the chains then stacks and then put a 250 pond rider on their backs and whip them till they get up and do the Big Lick. Then when they don’t perform send them to the auction to go to the meat buyers!,, cause no one will buy those broken horses!!

Big Lick is purposeful cruelty for pure entertainment, for prestige. Why not showcase the fine athleticism of some horses and riders with excellent horsemanship? No cruel gimmicks. What Big Lickers do is morally wrong, people using cruelty to mask their own deficits and weaknesses. Or maybe because of their own deficits and weaknesses. This kind of human behavior, behavior that wins accolades and prizes, makes me ashamed of us. Maybe someday it will you, too.

I've been watching too many bick lick videos because, IDK I just like getting outraged I guess. This video is a good sight. This is what all horse shows should be: beautiful, comfortable, well-trained horses doing what they do best and with no mistreatment.
@mentallyinsane4455 ай бұрын
Big lick aka soring has been banned since the 70s. Modern padded performance has been scientifically proven to cause no pain, inflammation, acute or even subacute stress to their joints. Padded horses also maintain long term careers with no detrimental effects.
