i also use the shop magnets to float my quilts tops, but have a question regarding the way you place yours as I notice you have yours clamped to the front of the belly bar. Is there a difference, or is it better, to have them clamped to the top of the bar, or to the front of the bar?

Yes, the design is wonderful! Texture is gorgeous, I don't think a custom quilting design would add the same 'feel'. I find the most difficult thing while doing E2E freehand, is the traveling. I wind up getting it to look really nice, but it takes me longer than it should because I get caught in an area, then panic trying to get out and back in the groove. Thank you for sharing your talent!

That improves with practice. As you get to where you know the motif almost without thinking, then you can think more about overall movement. And you can always pause, and plan where you’re going next😉

Good for you. I do try to do my part, but I am not going to use cotton thread. It’s just a pain to work with. I don’t thread is the problem here. BTW, polyester does break down. I just threw a bunch of thread away because it broke when I pulled on it. It was in mom’s thread stash and she’s been gone for 23 years.

QQQ can newbies and/or most people do freehand nonstop as long as you can, I’m pretty sure 5 min would kick my butt LOL. In next live (I watch them all) can you do a few minutes of conscious thought out loud … like swirl pedal pedal pedal swirl pedal pedal quick check sizing staying same and any other random thoughts that come to mind. I watch on tv but can’t comment from there … it was Not a mistake having the darker patches … it actually makes the entire quilt blend beautifully! Regarding the metallic comment … me too … yards and yards of white with a bit of thin pop. Caramel thread perfect!

I just can’t quilt very long, at a time. I usually one section across the quilt and then stop for a few. Quilting makes me nervous. I use an 18” long arm. So, no cnt do even a baby quilt from start to finish. Have to break. lol.

I imagine how long I quilt has come with practice. As you can see, the motions are pretty automatic, so it’s low mental level. When I’m working by myself, I frequently will listen to an audiobook and that makes the time fly. If it’s a physical reason you can’t go longer, listen to your body! Take the breaks and stretches you need to!

I just received mine! The edge on the particular backing I just loaded is a torn edge with some fraying. Had trouble feeding that edge into the slot so came back to find this video. Wondering if the frayed edge will make it impossible. 🤔 these pointers are good so will try again.

From BERNINA. I believe I ordered it with my machine, but I just Google it now and found it under “cup clip” at various dealers. A side note, feet #74 and 43 work similarly with the cup shape, so if you have one of those, give them a try👍🏻

Susan - I'm new to long arm quilting. I've enjoyed watching you quilt! I'm curious, when I load my quilts following your example, after putting on the red snappers on the front and start rolling up the quilt to attach the back red snappers, the backing sticks to the leader cloth and pulls on it. I've tried this many times and don't know how to stop the backing from sticking to the leader. On your example, your backing just slips over the leader. I have "home made" leader cloths made from cotton. I would appreciate any tips you have to keep the leader cloth from moving with the backing when trying to get the backing and leader to square up. Thanks.
@StitchedBySusan
@StitchedBySusan 14 күн бұрын
I think the fabric type may be the culprit. Mine are fairly heavy canvas. Could you perhaps place a row of magnetic bars to hold it in place? The edge may still shift, but as a whole it may stay fixed.
@717voice
@717voice 14 күн бұрын
@@StitchedBySusan Hmm, my leaders are made from a fairly lightweight material. I'm not exactly sure where I would put the magnetic strips on that upper bar to hold the leader cloth. I may have to recreate my leader cloths and use heavier material. Ugh, that is a lot of work but may make things easier in the long run. Next quilt I load I will try fiddling with the magnetic strips and let you know what happens. Thanks.
@717voice

I was able to use my magnetic strips to hold the cloth in place while I snapped on my red snappers. I had about an inch to work with but it did work! Thanks for your response and helpful hint.

I love the red snapper! I made a leader of canvas and I bast the leader to the top of the back. This gives me more wiggle space away from the snapper. I also took the snapper rod and cut enough of it off of one side so I can bring the machine to that side , the machine head is out of the way and I can roll the red snapper under the dead bar and that little spot is not in the way with the machine because it is empty of rod when I am ready for the next section. my other breakage was from oil. I didn't know it was old but every time I used the oil that came with the machine the thread quit breaking, threw the oil that was given to me away! I also started oiling the 2 little wicks just in front of the bar we are suppose to oil. that also made a difference.

Susan could you detail what direction the backing rollers need to be loaded with the fabric? Like right side of backing to either top /bottom side of leader fabric? My machine doesnt have a dead bar.
@StitchedBySusan
@StitchedBySusan 16 күн бұрын
I don’t think it really matters. I used to pin so that the backing folded back over itself; now with my snappers it doesn’t. So that’s not right or wrong, but if it DOES fold over itself you need to be quite accurate in width of fold. I’ve seen quilters do it all kinds of ways….
