If you have discovered small worms in your tap water. Or your fish have been catching things. The worms that have been reported to have been found in tap water are midge larvae, flatworms, roundworms (otherwise known as nematodes), and rotifers. The typical size of parasitic worms or helmiths, such as flukes, tapeworms, hookworms, ascris, pinworms, trichina worms, and filaria worms is 30-50 microns in diameter. Nematodes have long, cylindrical bodies which have no internal segments. Nematodes in fresh water and in the soil are microscopic. Some can be up to 1 inch long and others are microscopic. They can enter the water supply via reservoirs, wells, streams, rivers or lakes. The usual response to this problem has been one of increased reactive maintenance routines by the water company. This typically involves considerable cleaning and disinfection of the supply zone and increased chlorination of the water for a period of time after the event. This often gives rise to frequent complaints about the resulting taste and odour. It should also be noted that chlorine and bleach can be totally ineffective against blood worms in particular. Worms in tap water have also been known to impart objectionable tastes and odours to water. Although totally undesirable, it is generally accepted that these are completely harmless and they have been studied for whether they are carriers of the type of disease-bearing bacteria found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals.

A great video I really enjoyed it you have a new subscriber. I am original from Nottingham England but I emigrated to Newfoundland Canada in 1990 - 2018 I decided to keep koi in my garden pond like I did in the UK but here the winter is brutal like -20 is very common so we have our own chalenges. Plus we can’t purchase equipment so I have to make everything ie filters etc. Cheers Mate.

Im having a go at bricks to warm the pond its a simple method a greenhouse heater B0BD9HL64X it has a square home made tin cover like a funnel which goes under the pond covers so the heat goes up this and blows across the pond under the covers the heater has bricks all round to stop the possibility of fire the covers keep the heat in and I found it ups the temp by around 10c.

Have my self a box of square filters with a lens connector you push the connector onto the lens then just drop the filters in from my days of doing my own films and prints in the darkroom. Must be 30 years ago now they are someplace in one of the sheds or in the loft also kept my first 2 cameras a Zorki 4 and Zenith E that would be 55 years ago I think I still have a Yashica 124G camera as well I got that in 1975 with my first wage from Butlins as a photographer

Hi Alan, why not run your returns to the pond through the compost, just a thought
@KoiMrcoolweb11 ай бұрын
Yes you could run the pipes through the compost but would have to reduce the flow of water for it to benefit from the heat you could not run the water through the compost as a filter this would allow the microbes into the pond water and would produce a lot of algea.

Yes must be around 20 of them in the lake they have been around here for years dummy herons dont keep them away the only yhing as I was told by the warden of the nature reserve is to limit the space they like a 10ft clear area so if you break the area down put potted plants around or high fence even a couple of washing lines will stop them. The one on thursday was a bad one cut through the plastic net on the pond. Wire on now.

Hi I have a waterfall return about five inches above water and a grog shower three inches above water. I have never used any air pumps, even on the hottest days I think surface water disturbance that penetrates below the water line is all you need.
