This is really good. I'm guessing you've read 'Moonwalking with Einstien'. Is there a chance you can talk about some of the steps/daily training you did to refine your process? Or is it in the book?
@chasingtheillusion5229 күн бұрын
I haven't read it actually, but just had a quick look and it's on my list to read now so thank you! Honestly, a lot of friends and family members have commented their concern that my memory isn't great and I've been researching ways to improve it. I read a lot of scripts, listen to a lot of songs, and change my passwords as much as often to random letters and numbers and try to remember them. I find the passwords give me the extra sense of need to remember them because it will be an issue if I can't remember them! Hopefully my memory will improve over time 😅

Hey man, I just recently got into mentalism and performed a few tricks for my nephews wedding recently. Having not practised them I was going in blind and I was amazed at the results I got, and the reactions were incredible and now I’m pretty hooked. I guess that’s the thing with mentalism- in order to practice it you have to perform it. There were people at the wedding that were like - oh do that to me! Do that trick to me ! and I didn’t want to do the same trick twice because I thought it would be too transparent and I don’t have a huge arsenal of tricks so how do you get around, not doing the same trick twice when people ask?
@chasingtheillusion52Ай бұрын
Heya, thanks for the comment! You got it right, going out and performing is honestly the best way to learn! There are lots of ways to get around not performing the same trick twice. The easy and expensive option is to buy more books or tricks to do with mentalism. The cheaper, more creative and harder way is to not learn more tricks, but to present them differently. You'll learn that most tricks, are the same method in some way, so take what you already know and have a different speech or presentation to it! If someone is asking to do the same trick you have just done, and they have seen you do, a way to get through this is by saying, "I actually think you'll do a lot better with something else, would you like to try?" And then perform a different trick or the same, just presented different like said before. Hope that helps ☺️
@FreddotheWheelchairGuyАй бұрын
@@chasingtheillusion52 yeah that does help, luckily, I had a few packs of cards and did some other tricks. They work really well together, and once you've planted the seed that you can "mind read" you can get away with easier things with marked deck for example. I also added a great kicker to a mentalism 'think of a card" trick (not sure whats its called) with an invisible deck, revealing the original card he thought of - he was mind blown - "I'll be thinking of that all night now" I also heard from another magician "once a trick, twice a lesson" and I've used that a few times. If you have any other one liners like that then please share - also could be a good idea for a video if you fancied a deeper dive into it? It's very powerful stuff and I'm enjoying it a lot. Your channel is criminally undersubscribed, although I appreciate the small audience, makes it feel a bit special.

Was this written by AI? You'll find a lot of his stuff is just traditional magic. And some of his tricks are pretty much outright cheating. Having said that, yeah, the guy is a fantastic showman, illusionist, magician etc. His shows did change after the first few and he took a different approach and it became more serious-ish. Here's one for you. When he was on Richard and Judy he asked Judy to think of a letter. The envelope had carbon copy paper inside, and after Judy said the letter A he had a nib in his thumb that he used to write the letter A through the envelope. Go watch it. I used to do a trick where I guessed a person's card from a deck, and they were convinced I was reading micro-expressions, but I already knew the card, it was the patter and bs I was telling that made it look "real." We think we're such clever animals.
@chasingtheillusion523 ай бұрын
No AI used! I was trying not to go into too much detail on how he does his tricks, it's not for me to say butttttt... Derren is a master of covering up what he is actually doing, even sometimes telling you how he does it, when in fact that isn't at all how it was done (if that makes any sense). I think I've seen that clip! The thing I LOVE about mentalism, and one of the main reasons why I lean towards that, not magic, is because most people believe that there is a science behind it. And there is to some degree, but you can pull off a lot with generic tricks disguised as body language etc. Thanks for the comment!
@harvinderrishiraj59012 ай бұрын
"And some of his tricks are pretty much outright cheating." DB claims not use any stooges or as you put it, "cheats". If he did, lawsuits will be landing on his doorstep.
@chasingtheillusion522 ай бұрын
@@harvinderrishiraj5901 In my opinion, I don't think stooges are a problem, I don't see much difference between lying that the people in use aren't stooges compared to lying about making a coin disappear. It's all deceptive, and if people find it interesting and entertaining then what's the problem? Again, just my opinion 😂
@harvinderrishiraj59012 ай бұрын
@chasingtheillusion52 Stooges aren't an issue if declared. With Derren, he's explicitly outlined non are used. I've been to 2 of his live shows in the mid 2000s.

That was really intresting I really enjoyed that :) I have had family members that have had incidents with ghosts so I'm quite interested in this sort of stuff. I had something happen to when I was very young but I don't think I can really blame it on paranormal activities as I very vaguely remember it.
@chasingtheillusion524 ай бұрын
Thank you for your support as always!! The exact same happend to me with my family so I totally understand what you mean. Being young does factor in I think, maybe it's because we are better at imagining at that age or (maybe) children are more susceptable to the paranormal?

@chasingtheillusion52 Thank you for your response. I look forward to more of your content. I find magic and mystery so fascinating (the positive). I can just never find it. Any time something magical happens, it gets debunked really fast. The fan was moving it, glare of my glasses, etc. I guess if I had an experience, it would be solid proof that there is something greater. But it's never there and can get really discouraging sometimes. So I don't let myself get to far into it anymore
@chasingtheillusion524 ай бұрын
I am exactly the same! In this episode I had to bite my tongue and not come up with ideas on how it was possible. Because JUST IMAGINE if all the ideas and theories we come up with are all wrong and the simple answer of "magic" or "ghosts" is the actual answer? Just allowing myself throughout the episode and series to pretend it's real until I have proof really helped me understand it a little better

You also cear a lot about how you would approach people, your calm and very patient (I would say that beacuse people who own cats are usually calm and you have to be patient with a cat. I also say this because she's whering nice cloths and make up so she cares about how she look) Also I assume you would of seen that picture or had some context before hand about her before hand. That'd why I mentioned the cat. Also is this a vet picture I'm sure I've seen this picture somwhere else
