Even as a wood-smith I found this very helpful. I have been working on fret work. My pieces currently range from 6in by 6in up to 8in x 15in. Believe it or not I learned of the jeweler's bench pin in another video about blade selection and cutting techniques to minimize blade snaps. This video had convinced me that using one like this to supplement my bird's mouth platform would allow me to cut even more intricate patterns. Also thank you for sharing your family legacy. It touched my heart.

I want to cut the neck of a 10 liter Pyrex carboy so I can put a nut milk bag(ultra fine mesh) full of ground coffee inside for making 2.64 gallons of cold brew coffee in a single batch. After I cut off the neck I want to use a torch to melt the rim of the opening to make it smooth, will rotating the carboy in a mapp gas torch accomplish this task or will I need a hotter flame? Any info would be great, thank you

Would you ever do drawings on a solid rod and make as thin a lens on top as possible? Or do you always draw on tube to prevent the lens?

Nortel Red Max is a good starter torch that wont break your wallet. once you start making enough to afford a more expensive one then do so. But I wouldnt spend a bunch on an expensive one while you are learning. If you tag the front of the more expensive ones it is over. better to learn with a 4-500$ one than one that costs thousands.
