People think police are almighty trained gods, honestly, if shooting is your hobby and you go to the range once a month, buy and mod your own guns, and have a belt setup, that beats the 2-3 times a year the officers probably go to the range. And the officers probably don’t know anything more than breaking down and cleaning their guns. I was trained to shoot before going on duty but was out of law enforcement and in a different job for 6 years before I really got into shooting as a hobby. On top of that, the handful of guys that are there are probably the best ones who go to regular competitions. They probably work in an area with several departments with several hundreds of uniformed officers and you see like 5-10 of them competing
@PrimalDefenseCo13 сағат бұрын
I agree with most of what you say here. Not the last paragraph. These guys are from small agencies and come out because they want to. These events are primarily for the public. Law enforcement show up sometimes. The best shooters that show up are average people. And when the cops get beat they are cool with it. We all get along very well, and just like any close group of dudes, talk trash to each other. I think most people would appreciate the environment and the camaraderie if they showed up.
@Harrery12 сағат бұрын
@@PrimalDefenseCo yea it’s always fun getting a lot of like minded people together. What I was saying about the size of the agencies, I worked in a low population state in a town of about 20,000 people and we had 70 guys in our department, the sheriffs office had another 40, the neighboring town had like 20, one up the road 10 minutes was another 20 or so guys. So just in our county of about 80,000 people total we still have 150 or more officers, not including state police. So it’s fairly easy to say there could be several hundred officers within a 25 mile radius or so that could easily come out to play but only a fraction or so would do it as a hobby and most wouldn’t be able to outshoot a hobbyist civilian

Carrying in non-federal government buildings is not a crime in and of itself in Oklahoma. Such places have the option of either 1) Denying you entry or 2) if they do not have secure access control, asking you to leave before it becomes a misdemeanor offense. The exceptions to this are 1) primary and secondary school buildings, 2) courtrooms/courthouses and 3) jails/prisons/places where prisoners are kept. Open carry of any firearm has been prohibited at any municipal park or zoo if it is owned, leased, operated or managed by a non-profit or a public trust since 1 November 2019. Only concealed carry of HANDGUNS is allowed at such places. Also, and this will be mind blowing for most people, since 13 May 2021, it is also concealed carry only of handguns only on any outdoor public property where an "event" is taking place (art festival, street concert, 4th of July parade, etc.) unless the holder of the event permit explicitly says otherwise. The holder of the event permit further has the option to ban firearms entirely if they surround the entire event area with a METAL fence that is at least 8-ft tall and have access control using at least one walk-thru metal detector staffed by at least one LEO in uniform. Also, since 1 November 2018, the legal definition of "Open Carry" in Oklahoma has included ways of carrying that do not require the firearm to actually be visible.

Primary and Secondary Schools: Oklahoma is clear as mud on this and keeps it simple like a poop pretzel. As a rule, you can have a firearm in your car in a school parking lot only if you have a handgun license and if you get out of your car, it must stay inside the car, out of view and the car must be locked. Of course, you're going to want to have an OKLAHOMA handgun license to do this so that you aren't in violation of the GFSZA. You can can "a gun or knife designed for hunting or fishing purposes" in your vehicle while on school property without a license provided you are only picked up or dropping of students and you don't remain on school property. You can carry anywhere on PRIVATE SCHOOL property if you have a carry license and the school has a policy to allow firearms on their property.

@@PrimalDefenseCo - The three biggest things that I want people to know, especially folk from Texas are 1) "No guns" signs are NOT backed by force of law in Oklahoma. If it is private property and even most government property, you have not broken the law unless and until someone representing the property asks you to leave (verbal notice) and you refuse to do so. 2) There is no "51% rule" in Oklahoma. 3) There are no places in Oklahoma where it a felony to simply be in possession of a firearm. Honorable mention: the times/places where Open Carry is illegal on outdoor public property. That one really pisses me off.

Decent video, overall, but as a Oklahoma Handgun Licensing instructor for nearly the last 10 years, I'd like to correct a few discrepancies that I noticed. First, and this is fresh on my mind because I actually just did a video on this last night... The caliber limitation DOES only apply to HANDGUNS but only if they are LOADED with ammunition that this greater than .45 caliber. It would actually be legal to carry a .50 AE Desert Eagle so long as it is completely unloaded. kzfaq.infoFAepJEw9lTU?feature=share
@EPluribusOTAP3 күн бұрын
Also, Oklahoma recognizes carry licenses from all other states, including states that issue licenses to people who are between 18 - 20. We just don't issue to licenses to Oklahoma residents that young unless they have a military affiliation. A valid military ID also serves as a handgun license in Oklahoma for purposes of State Law. This is separate from Constitutional Carry and is applicable for situations - under State Law - where an actual handgun license is required.
@EPluribusOTAP3 күн бұрын
As of 1 November 2021, Oklahoma has completely decriminalized the carry of weapons (not just firearms) on the premises of establishments licensed to dispense alcohol. Oklahoma has never had a "51% rule" like Texas. Also, "No Guns" signs are not backed by force of law in Oklahoma. Prior to 1 November 2021, if the establishment was licensed to dispense alcohol as a non-primary purpose, then you could carry a HANDGUN _with a handgun license_. Possession of ANY OTHER OFFENSIVE WEAPON on said premises was a felony. This kind of made axe throwing establishments problematic as axes are considered offensive weapons that one may now leave the house with. If the establishment was licensed to dispense alcohol as its primary purpose, then possession of any offensive weapon of any kind was a felony. Since 1 November 2021, primary or non-primary purpose are irrelevant and it is only a misdemeanor if you are asked to leave and you refuse to do so.

@@EPluribusOTAP I really appreciate the feedback back. I do not understand Oklahoma law as well as I do Texas. I did read the entire Oklahoma Self Defense Act. Here is where I get caught up; 21-1290.6 Prohibited Ammunition A handgun loaded with anything greater than a .45 is listed as a "Prohibited Weapon". 21-1290.14 Safety and Training Course (E.) ....."no pistol shall be capable of firing larger than .45 caliber ammunition" 21-1290.18 Application for Contents (19)....."maximum ammunition capacity of the firearm shall be .45 caliber" Is that incorrect? I know the laws have been changing in Oklahoma but this is the most current version of the Oklahoma Self Defense Act right from the states website. I mean no disrespect. I seriously want to get it right.
@EPluribusOTAP3 күн бұрын
@@PrimalDefenseCo - One of the biggest problems with the Oklahoma Self Defense Act comes from the fact that there was a lot of poor proofreading back in 2018/2019 when we were trying to get Constitutional Carry passed. As a result, there are a lot of things that are contradictory. Also, the bit about guns and places that are licensed to dispense alcohol became muddled and problematic after we had Alcohol Modernization in 2018 that added a number of different types of "liquor licenses". Things like complimentary beverage licenses that allowed places like barber shops and nail salons and furniture stores to give away free samples to their customers. Also, after Constitutional Carry allowed for the carry of long guns in public for the first time in state history, the SDA still said HANDGUN in a number of places and still specified with a handgun license in a number of places - which is why Mr. Timothy Harper, famously was arrested after he carried a Glock and a AR-15 into a Twin Peaks Restaurant in Oklahoma City on the 2nd Day of Constitutional Carry after people had been led to believe that they could carry anything they wanted anywhere they wanted. We just finally got rid of the requirement to have a license in order to carry on a boat in motion outside of hunting last November. We had one whole year of Constitutional Carry (2019 - 2020) where you could transport a loaded firearm in your car, unless and until stopped for a moving traffic violation, in which case you would need to have a license if you had a loaded pistol in the vehicle with you. The current section of the law that deals with establishments licensed to dispense alcohol (keep it mind ... it isn't about selling alcohol or even having any of it on the premises; its about whether or not the establishment has a license to dispense it) was intentionally written to be confusing to the average person to make it seem like it was still a crime when it isn't. That was the plan of the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association and U.S. LawShield's lead attorney for Oklahoma who wrote it Hell - for THREE years 1272.1 referred to alcohol laws that didn't even exist anymore! As for 1290.14 and 1290.18, they are purely administrative matters for how the range portion of the licensing class is to be conducted and for literally filling out the application for a license. Basically, it's telling instructors that when someone shoots the range portion of the class, you are not to allow them to use anything bigger than a .45. The mention of greater than .45 caliber in 1290.18 is irrelevant because the application form doesn't ask, it just wants you to check off whether you shot the qualification course with a derringer, revolver or semi-automatic handgun. 1290.6 is the only part that is an actual crime that has elements that must be met and penalties associated with it. There was actually a Bill a couple years ago, when the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association and some of their legislator friends were on a rampage of trying to change the word "handgun" to "firearm" in as many places as possible where they did so with 1290.6 and it made it out of committed before people realized - "Oh yeah! If we say that we can't have FIREARMS greater than .45 caliber, then that will eliminated a lot of rifles and most shotguns!" LOL So the Bill died and instead of just amending it to remove the caliber restriction that had been on the books since 1995, they just left it there.
