we need more discussions about DC fast charging prices as many public DC fast charging stations are gauging the public making long distance travel more expensive than many ICE cars. Tesla Supercharger prices are far lower than vast majority public DC chargers because they are not trying to make money on charging. We need more DC chargers to work similar to gas station model where they just brake even on fuel and all the profit is from the convenience store. This model should work for charging as well.

That Washingron "Transportation Electrification" fee has done absolutely zero for the trash charging infrastructure in this state. This dispite the governor attempting to set a date when new fossil fuel cars will no longer be able to be sold. In addition, there is no state apportionment on Canadian and US semi trucks that tear the roads up faster than anything.

Gas tax rates haven't kept up because construction companies are some of the biggest contributions to local and state political campaigns. Politicians are defrauding the public by not demanding fair pricing, properly auditing cost overruns, and holding companies accountable for mistakes and inferior quality. As a historian I am aware of abandoned WWII landing strips that were built in weeks and still look better than roads built just 5 years ago. California, one of the highest taxed states in the Union, has some of the worst roads.

it's a shame that they can't make some of this unnecessary standard stuff to be optional and reduce the price greatly (stuff like air suspension, high-end sound system, glass roof, soft-closing doors, electronically receding door handles, etc.). If Polestar made all those things optional instead of standard (and throw in 18- or 19-inch wheels for better range as well as lower cost/weight), I'll bet they could get the MSRP close to $65k USD MSR, with potential US federal tax credit of $7500 bringing the final cost to buyers of well under $60k USD.

Jordan, Francie, its incorrect to say that OTA isnt something vinfast does. My latest software update about 7 weeks ago, I was surprised to get an onscreen popup saying new version software automatically downloaded and ready to install. So i did. And it worked great! Maybe its just in Canada so far, and i have the subscription 4g service activated. But its definitely a thing. My first two software updated were at the dealership.....but this one was full OTA. I anticiapate it will be network wide soon.

"I would never own an EV without level 2 charging at home"......thats a statement almost all EV owners would say and I second that. Hotels, apartment buildings and shopping centers also need these level 2 chargers. DCFC is for highway travel not day to day charging as its expensive vs home charging and reducers the ROI/EV savings on your electric vehicle. The US should be spending money on the charging infrastructure and not on $7500 tax credits....I agree with Elon/Trump to do away with the $7500 credit upon purchase of EV, let the market determine what EV you buy. Put tariffs on imported vehicles based on % made outside US and spend the money on our infrastructure, EV charging, highspeed rail and roads/bridges. Yes GM, that includes Mexico and Canada for the tariffs, I'd be ok with a higher % of tariffs on non-North American imports. Lets say 15% on North American(Canada/Mexico) and 30% on all outside North America. Build out our mobility/Energy Infrasructure over the next 12 years team Trump/Vance.

Not "soon" enough, I recommend and support not purchasing a GM EV if you will need to DCFC at all. The CCS network is terrible and thinly spread. I drove my Blazer EV RS RWD on vacation which needed a few DCFC stops. I ran into dealerships with broken chargers, or they shut them off on the weekends and several others that were broken or offline. The country needs to mandate all dealerships that have DCFC chargers to leave them on 24/7 and remove equipment or fix them within 24-48 hrs. As an owner of a 23MYLR and Blazer EV I can give a great comparison of them including DCFC. GM could of hit a homerun with the Blazer EV if it had a frunk, faster DCFC and access to the Supercharger network. I would only purchase either the RS RWD as the AWD LT/RS is a dog and doesn't have enough range, The SS fixes power but not range and only the RWD RS can go 320-350 highway miles at 70mph(confirmed by my vacation travels) which is an advantage over the MYLR23 we own. Lastly the DCFC charging curve is terrible with the Ultium batteries and thats with the 190KW charging speed of the RWD RS Blazer EV. GM needs to hire real auto enthusiast/owners to help them get it right.

Level 3 chargers needed in the National park system. Right now level 2 can handle the needs for most parks. However as more drivers switch to EVs it means having to install hundreds of slow chargers or just a few fast chargers.

The Tesla lease terms are the clearest I’ve ever seen in any lease document for a car. It’s not even close. It is the shortest clearest contract rivaled only by their sales contracts. You could say I’m a Tesla fan boy for saying that but look at the documents yourself. It’s very clear before you buy and before you pay. It literally takes less than 30 seconds to read the entire contract and it’s in plain English.

There is also the demand component of the flow of electricity. If electric usage is smooth and predictable, the utility will reward you with lower rates. But if your usage includes big spikes in demand, the utilities have to use more expensive forms of electrical generation.

Great topic, thanks Francie and OOS. I didn't think about reg fees but I see that I should have. I bought and registered my MYLR in 2022 in CA even though I live in CO as my primary residence. Then I re-reged it in CO and got to transfer most of my CA fee against the CO fee. But I missed the incentive in CO and the Fed incentive due to purchase timing. I'm considering trading in once the Model Y refresh shows up and has HW4 or better. I'll be able to take the incentives and pay the lower reg fees in CO at that time as long as they are still available. But the insurance cost is still high. That cost is the largest ongoing cost of ownership next to tires. Off peak electricity at home is very low at 14 cents per kW but the road trips from CO to CA and back are hit with about 35 to 45 cents but I only do those road trips about once every 2 - 3 years. Tourism road trips are taken more often and also cost in that range.

I’ve always assumed the warranty is repairing the car but not necessarily getting the car to the nearest service center or dealer. Roadside assistance helps with that whether through insurance or if the manufacturer includes it but still usually has distance limitations. It’s the first thing I check before buying a brand… where are their service locations and how distributed are they. Secondly. Is vinfast paying for comment bots or what’s with the strange white knighting I see on vinfast videos that expose real concerns? Strange.

If you want your computer or phone to fail, the easiest way is to turn it on and while it is loading software, you opening a some of applications, the computer or phone will fail immediately. After that, you turn it off computer or phone and while it is still shutdown, you turn it on and try to open some of applications again. If your computer or phone fail, so you can record a video and post it on You tube, so everyone knows that the manufacturer has a bad product. A friend of mine has a new vf8 plus, she always complains to me that her car has a lot of errors on the screen. I asked her, did she turn on her car and put it in gear right away? Then I told her, when her press break pedal on the vf8, wait 1 to 2 minute for it to loaded all the software before running. A few months later, I asked her if her car still had many errors? She said that the car now runs stably and no longer shows errors. A friend of mine is an Uber Eats deliver. He bought a new Nissan Kicks for $34,000 CAD. In Canada you can easily earl $200 a day driving Uber Eats or Amazon Flex... He pays the bank $340 CAD for the car and about $1,250 CAD for gas every month. I thought, why should I spend $1,600 CAD a month on such a small car just because it consumes less gas? So I bought a 2023 Tesla model 3 Standard for $56,000 CAD to drive Uber Eats. I pay the bank $580 CAD for the car and $80 CAD for electricity every month. That's $660 CAD in total. You know, food delivery means you have to go to the restaurant to pick up the food, drive it, and deliver it to the customer's house, you have to turn on and off the car many times a day at very irregular times. So the first month I had some problems with my new Tesla, it sometime getting black screen, lost brakes for a few seconds and suddenly accelerated, the wipers didn't control properly. If I were a Tesla hater, I would have made a video to post on KZfaq saying that Tesla made a bad car. But I didn't, I understood that Tesla also has a computer and the problem is that I need to wait for it to start and loaded full software before I can drive. Since then my Tesla has had no more problems. In early 2024, because I had a Vinfast promotion code, I bought a new Vf8 eco for about 46,000 CAD. Every month I pay the bank 490 CAD and 100 CAD for electricity. It is cheaper than Tesla. In the first week, I also had problems with the VF8, its computer started up slower than the Tesla so it had a lot of errors on the screen, I couldn't even put it in gear, I had to wait 15 minutes for its 12V auxiliary battery to be recharged before I could drive. After that, I learned that every day when I started, I would wait a while for the car to load full the software before driving, when I went to the restaurant or delivered to the customer, I would set it to Camping Mode and lock the door. When I back to the car, I just put it in gear and drove on, no need to restart again. Since then, about 7 months, my VF8 has run about 30,000 km without any problems. What do you think about the VF8 when it is bigger than the Toyota Venza, stronger than the Land Cruiser, cheaper than the Prius Hybrid and faster than the Toyota GR86. I have driven it through steep snowy hills in Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster... when other cars or Tesla would not dare to drive. I can slept in the car when it was cold and rainy outside anywhere when I am tired. If you have an electric car, learn how to use it properly and understand that it is different from a gasoline car.

I have had a Smartphone since 2007, starting with a Treo 680. I have been on Android since Jellybean (v4.x). I have never experienced that problem. I have OFTEN opened my phone and started using it before it completed booted. No errors except it may not be sure of its location yet (had not acquired a GPS lock). I do not accept your argument for a car. Many EVs allow one to reboot them as they are in motion, driving down the road. That does not inherently cause errors. If am embedded operating system requires minutes, instead of a few seconds (less than 10) to allow me to move the car (without causing warnings/errors), it needs rework.

@@pvman2 If you want to buy an electric car that starts up quickly under 10 seconds, you can buy Hyundai Kona EV, Kia Soul EV or VF3, VF5 if you are in Vietnam. It starts up very quickly because it doesn't have many features. VF8, Vf9 is a car with many features so its computer doesn't start up quickly under 10 seconds. I hope that in the future, Vinfast will upgrade the computer of VF8, VF9 to make it start up faster.

I don't accept that. Vinfast could easily perform an integrity check on all downloaded updates before installing them. Any update file that got corrupted on download can be redownloaded and checked again. What about updating over W-Fi? Why not do it over the owner's home network? What if the owner has a 5G phone? They could use it as a hotspot for the VF8.
