As someone who hates selling things, I feel this dude on his listing. I’ve dealt with so many useless people when trying to sell things that I’ve just destroyed the things instead of dealing with the headache. I’ve even scrapped cars because I couldn’t be bothered trying to sell them. Of course cars weren’t horribly overpriced back then.

I would never buy something that expensive off Craigslist or FB Marketplace. But I have bought a used (probably mined on) RTX 3090 on eBay and it's been running fine for like a year. I bought a Zeotac AMP Extreme version with the bigger cooler, I figure it'll probably survive the mining if it's properly cooled.

If they show video of them stress testing it, it's fine, otherwise, don't be a jerk, if someone is offering you money, let them test it themselves.

I absolutely would have not let you test the gpu if I were the seller. As a caveat, whenever I do sell gpus, I try to preempt any questions or concerns by putting all of the details in the listing and I will include extensive video evidence that it works (including time stamps of when the video was taken, shot of the card with serial number and the cable going from the card into the monitor, etc) so there really should be no worry on the buyer's side that it is going to work. I also share the sentiment that buyers should feel relatively certain that the gpu works; I usually make relatively sure any gpu I buy works by asking for proof ahead of time. With that said, no way would I let you handle the card and plug it into your rig before paying for it; like you said, he can't trust you or that your hardware is decent - what if your psu shorts his card (as just one example of what could go wrong)? When you meet up with someone, there should not be any surprises as to what is going to happen. You blindsided the guy and ignored what he wrote in the listing. That really could have resulted in you wasting both parties' times and is why I do not agree to meet buyers more than a couple blocks away. Yeah it sucks that this guy was not answering your questions thoroughly, but if they don't want you to test it then you just move on imo. If you're going to insist on testing it yourself, make that clear ahead of time and let them decide whether they will oblige you. Doing it your way is just underhanded and is taking advantage of the fact that the guy has already sunk time into meeting you.

i just bought a rx 6600xt for 50 bucks and i learned how you tested parts a way while back but my setup is i use my battery for my sub woofer and a power inverter and my test bench because i used to bring a whole generator and the problemwas it usually leaked gas when i drive my 4 runner because all of the rocking so i had to use an f250 but the gas mileage was terrible i am talking 8-10 mpg but that 6600xt was a steal am using it rn as we speak the card was so suspicious that i had to test it but the card was in great conditition and the temps are fine on it and i been playing gta 5 on it so far i was actually waiting for another game to finish downloading thats why i clicked on this video. Thank you for giving me inspiration a while back and i havent said anything since
