Nice first impression Gary. I have the same colored 9016, but with a fine nib. One slight correction, the converter in the 9016 is slightly smaller than the one that comes with the 9019, but definitely bigger than the standard Jinhao converter. You'll see it when you get the 9013. I don't mind the size of the 9019, but the 9016 is a nice size that splits the difference between a 9019 sized pen and many of the smaller pens that are available. Looking forward to the 9013 video.

I do enjoy this pen. I have medium sized hands and the 9016 fots slightly better than the 9019. That it has the enlarged converter is a plus in my book. Most cinveters di not hild mych ink. I think this converter hold about 1.5 ml which is eaual to some of my oiston filler pens. Actually i like it more than some of my piston fillers as it is very easy to clean. The Heartbeat nib works surprisingly well. No adjustments were necessary. No flow issues and the nin was tuned very well. I am looking forward to you first impressins of the 9013. I really like the color of this demonstrator. I wish jinhao would make it for the 9019. I also like the " autumn " yellow variant for the 9013. Wish it too was available for the 9019. Also for good measure jinhao should also make a smoke black demonstrator for the 9019. Size of the 149, large capacity converter as well as a #8 sized nib. You mentioned that the 630 has a Jinhao #8 nib. A bit of a flub. I think the Eco is about the same width of the Carene. I think it is a bit surprising that the 630 and the MZG have approximately the same barrel girth. I thought the 630 was wider. For my hand the MZG feels more comfortable. I do not have the same section as you as they changed it with the MZG 2.0. I did an ink capacity test with the 630. It holds 2.0 ml. The MZG is 1.5 ml. As they are about identical weight, it seems the resin on the MZG is either thicker or slightly heavier. It may be the ink but the 630 has a wider line than the MZG. I think the 630 has a wetter nib and feed combination. This is not to say the MZG is a dry writer. I love both pens. They will remain in my collection permanently. The 630 is such a good performer that I have no real interest in acquiring a MB 149. If I was to get another MZG, it would be for an ink window. I do agree with your assessment; the MZG is a better pen. If nothing else, their resins are outstanding. Great comparison, Garry.

I enjoyed your review. I really like the Homo Sapiens. I bought the Sapphire Stones demonstrator on sale from Goldspot a few years ago but wasn’t completely satisfied with the nib. Last month I purchased the Crystal Dreams edition and it is without defect, the medium nib writes like butter and feels so comfortable in my hand. My husband purchased the Dark Crystal version and is glad he did. He prefers the more substantial sized pens. My other favorite EDC pens are the Pelikan M1000 Renaissance Brown, Pilot Vanishing Nib LS & Custom 823, and the Lamy 2000. Over the last few years I’ve developed the philosophy of buying the item I really want rather than a lesser substitute. I’m unhappy with it, and eventually get the originally desired item. Garry, the Jinhao, like its stable mate the X159, is inexpensive, yet works first time every time even if left for a couple of weeks. The VFM should be 10/10. They are not Montblancs, but they do what it says on the tin and do it very well. I cannot comment on usage or feel of the Majohn because I don't own one, but observationally and based on your comments: the weight would be an issue for me, I am sure I would dislike the section (thin and polished chrome) and it just looks off (disproportioned?). The nib like a nail, well Chinese steel nibs rarely have much bounce (the WingSung 630 being my exception to that rule), but I find Jinhao nibs generally smooth with the right amount of feedback. Based on your assessment I would have scored the Jinhao above the Majohn, just sayin'......

It's not an easy question to answer as there are lots of factors, including the nib being used and the ink. I also tend to use cheaper paper, bought from the local supermarket, Most of my pens work OK, with a little bit of ink showing through onto the back of the paper, but with some pens and inks I get loads which makes the back of the paper unusable. Also, sheening inks do not show any sheen when used on cheaper paper. The best thing to do is to experiment.
