Good stuff! Seems to me you are sacrificing safety for dust collection. IMO, keep both hands on the piece for full control and worry about the clean up later.

I used a aluminum 35 gal can, and put loops, attached to the can sides, and use those to put bungee straps to hold on the lid. Also you might do better if you put some silicon around the base of the Braun, to seal it to the mdf better. I power mine with a 1.5 gallon small shopvac, and it works like a champ.

@@paulwaldrop I like that idea. An aluminum can would certainly be stronger. And the silicone idea is spot on as well. Thanks for the feedback 😁

I have very little patience for self absorbed performers. He spends time telling us what he is going to do. Then he tells us AGAIN while he's doing it. He tells us about why he doesn't have a tool handy, which I don't care about. And more time showing us how to sand everything to infinity with a power tool. And all this for an extremely simple homemade tool. Thumbs DOWN. Bye.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the video. I appreciate your feedback about the repetition in the video. It is something that I have always struggled with and am trying to change that. My content isn't for everyone, and that's ok. I hope you find a creator that checks all your boxes and isn't "self absorbed".

You have a chip collector! It is a dust distributor. The best thing for your health is to put it outside. Please for your health be aware it just puts fine dust into the air for you to breath.

unfortunately this is very true. dump the 20 micron dust pump bag and replace with an appropriate canister filter cartridge

This is only the beginning. I have several upgrades I want to do to make this a better system. As others have mentioned the filter bag that the unit came with is definitely less than desirable so I will get a better filter for it. I also have an air filtration system planned to scrub the air in the shop. You mentioned that I have a "chip collector"...and that is exactly right. That is actually why I bought this system, to collect the chip from the planer and eventually expand to better the dust situation in the entire shop. Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching! 😁

One important thing to note, is that you still have to use a dust mask when using the harbor freight dust collector. It doesn’t have a good enough filter to prevent the really dangerous particles from still being in the air, and it will actually possibly make the small dust issue worse.
@TheWeekendWoodshop

100% agree! One of my next steps is to upgrade the filter on the collector AND implement a shop air cleaner as well. But to your point, sawdust is no joke. Protecting your lungs is ABSOLUTELY essential! Thanks for watching 😁

I bought one on sale; it’s hard to argue with $199 so I bought it. Complaints: 1. Two bolts are too short to attach the metal top filter’s support pole. 2. One motor mount bolt was missing. 3. One welded on nut on the bottom of the base easily stripped out. I spent $15 to buy the missing and incorrect (metric) bolts. 4. It’s pretty loud. 5. Not sure where to buy replacement bottom bags. 6. Assembly directions are really poor. I.e. which bolts at which length go where to minimize trial and error. But if you’re mechanically inclined it’s doable. I’ll probably continue using my Festool dust extractor for my smaller tools. Adding a cyclone before the collector is a good idea if your volume of sawdust is significant. I’ll consider that later. But, it was fixed and is useful.

Got mine on sale as well. Gotta LOVE those Harbor Freight coupons! Fortunately mine wasn’t missing any parts but I agree, the instructions leave a lot to be desired. I agree, it is loud but in my case it is quieter than my old shop vac system. Always wear your hearing protection. All in all it’s a great addition to the shop. Could it be better? Sure. But to your point again, it’s better than what I had and I’m grateful that it’s finally here. All that aside, thank you SO much for watching and sharing your perspective 😀

It's loud but not unbearable. Definitely recommend hearing protection but honestly as woodworkers we should have that in all the time. As I stated in the video it was better than my shop vac system.

First item out of the van... a case of Dew. You can always swap the plastic bag on the bottom of the collector with a reusable fabric one. I would caution using the dust collector to sweep up the floor. It is very easy to suck up concrete aggregate, small stones, nails, staples, etc. that can cause a spark as it passes over the steel impeller blades of the vacuum pump and possibly ignite the fine dust. That risk is less with a shop vac as the air is filtered before it goes the blower and the impeller blades are plastic.
@TheWeekendWoodshop
@TheWeekendWoodshop 4 ай бұрын
Excellent point Diamond. I definitely don't want to ignite anything. That's why, eventually I want to add a second stage separator to the system to capture all that heavy stuff before it gets to the impeller. I love how you're always looking out for me! Thanks for the feedback 😁
