Finally found the video. Saw my foreman make one of these as I’m new to tree work and we pulled whole trees over with this system. It was impressive.

Progress capture?

Is that a question or a criticism? As you can see there is a red prusik next to the first COD pulley. Unfortunately I never got around to attaching it in this video. It would go on the prusik minding side of the first COD pulley.

I could see using a recovery ring or smc type ring in place of the second carabiner depending on situation. If not pretied, you could do both couldn't you?

Yes, a ring could be placed there since you can pull the bight of the webbing through it.

Classic case of a guy not knowing who he is talking to. You are coming at me with some strong aggression dude. First of all, I never said this is the fastest way to ascend. This is a typical way to ascend in rope access and rope rescue professions. I also do tree work and I prefer to ascend with my Unicender, SAKA knee ascender, and foot ascender. A little Technique called rope walking. I guarantee it’s faster than the “old way” you are referring to. What do you do? Hip thrust on a Blake’s hitch? If you want another video featuring me ascending in trees, check out the official Rock Exotica Unicender KZfaq video. Have a good night.

I'm about to deal with just his type of attitude with our volunteer dept. I get the classic, "we do things a little differently here" speech quite often. Usually, this means without regard for safety on the part of the rescuers. I respond with, "yeah, and I was only a paid, full time fire fighter at an ISO 1 dept for 32 years so we are going to do things my way." "This may or may not agree with you, but that's how we will conduct any technical rescue." Very nice demo! Techniques and equipment have come a long way in 40 years! @@dangerstall

If you had connected the figure of eight to the becket of the lower pulley and then connect the lower pulley directly to the load with a carabiner,would that still be considered and function as 5:1? PS. Thanks for making these videos. They have helped me understand considerably.
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Жыл бұрын
Yes, if you connected the end of the rope to the becket of the traveling pulley, it would still be a 5:1

The point of the prusik is to stop the load from dropping right?
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Жыл бұрын
Depends on which prusik you are talking about. There is a progress capture prusik that goes on the change of direction pulley, and a rope grab prusik that goes on the traveling pulley. The progress capture prusik stops the load from dropping.

Why do you do a line ascent? Isn't it easier to place the Aztek near the descender and after passing the knot just release the Aztek?
@dangerstall
@dangerstall Жыл бұрын
I don’t understand what you mean by “line ascent”? I’m also kind of confused by your second question. Once passing the knot through the clutch I released the AZTEK until the clutch had the load. Then I could take the AZTEK off the main line. Are you asking about passing the knot during a lower or a raise?

Cool device! I'm a tree guy too, I know there are also ronins but have you seen the sala rollgliss? I think it is was designed as rock climbing rescue device. But it is a very similar system but more compact & can be powered by an electric drill. Slightly slower than this petrol option

Great Video! I have a question though.. what would the ratio be & what would happen if you made the 2nd redirection attached to a rope grab off the back of the progress capture pulley instead of the rigging plate?
@dangerstall

If I understand you correctly, I think it might make it a complex 11:1 . You would have to reset the pulleys so many times though.
