I ran into a guy at the local Sacramento, CA VA who was wearing an Army Vet baseball cap. I guessed based on his age he was from the post-Vietnam pre-Middle East era, or even a Vietnam vet with good genes. He was a Hispanic. So am I. No issue. He had a thick accent. I deployed with guys with thick, barely understandable accents. No issue. I asked what unit he served with. He seemed not to hear the question or understand it. Hearing loss is a thing. No issue. I repeated my question slower, a bit louder, and enunciated more. Then he looked genuinely confused. I rephrased the question asking what unit, division, or MOS he had on duty. He was still confused. Yellow flag. Not everyone I served with was a native English speaker or born US citizen, but these are fundamental questions a vet should be able to answer. I asked him if he had deployed. He said yes. I asked where. He said, "Oh...everywhere. Iraq? Afghanistan?" Red flag. I'm looking at this guy and thinking, there is no way in hell this lying MF'er is a fellow Iraq/Afghan vet. Conversation fell apart at that point. It's possible the guy was there fully legally. But I'm certain he was still a liar.

This has been on my mind lately. I have a condition that I am going to file as secondary. I have the service connected for the primary and had been diagnosed with the secondary. Issue I have is that although I’ve had the symptoms for the secondary for over a year, I’ve just recently received the diagnosis and began seeking medical care. It no lie that many of us just learn to live with the pain and work through it.

The myth of illegal immigrants using VA benefits is an out and out lie. The law makers making these claims are either grossly misinformed or trying to push people's buttons to get reelected. People need to remember, when a politician gets elected, the next day they start working to get reelected. Some of these politicians have no scruples and will lie, twist the truth and act like weasels.

I have a humdinger for you. Blown up in Iraq from an IED, fell on ship ramp during a detail and passed out, fell from the repell tower and passed out. The VA gave me 10% for the TBI. They gave me 100% for depression, anxiety, alcohol abuse and PTSD. I am overseas and the VA only covers what you are service connected for. I turned in my PACT ACT to service connect me for my cancers, sinuses, hearing, tinnitus, and about 40 other things including an increase for TBI. They said they made a mistake and that the TBI should have been 40% but then they combined it with the PTSD, Here is the strange part. I now have major Neurocognitive Disorder (dementia). They added that to the PTSD. Now we have an SMC T that I should qualify for but they combined all of it. The 8th of August is my C&P for increase and SMC T C&P. They listed everything wrong with me like forgetting, sleep walking, sleep cooking, I can’t drive anymore, almost burnt down my house, I stutter, I have migraines… I have SMC K, S, L 1/2, and P. And I have bowel incontinuence and was rated at 30%. That and 3 cancers, my heart, liver disease, kidney disease, liver cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer… its been a little tough from time to time. I don’t know what to do at the C&P. I have to write everything down or I forget or it comes out as rambling and out of order.

Veterans who left the military after Dec. 20, 2019 with a discharge that's less than honorable will now have the opportunity to appeal that discharge characterization via the Discharge Appeal Review Board and have their military record changed. When a service member leaves the military, their discharge paperwork indicates the character of their discharge on a DD214. Most veterans will leave service with an honorable discharge. But due to their own actions while in uniform, a service member might receive a less favorable characterization of their service such as a bad conduct discharge or a discharge under other than honorable conditions. The characterization of a discharge can affect the types of benefits a veteran is eligible for after military service - including educational benefits - and can also affect the kinds of jobs a veteran might be able to apply for after their military service concludes. This is just another SLAP IN THE FACE to Persian Gulf Era Veterans (1990-2018). I too have a general under honorable but there are ways that it impacts us. We cannot get a Navy Federal Credit Union account. They used the Board of My Peers to fraudulently discharge those who had registered with the Gulf War Illness registry to keep me from getting a medical board. I have witness statement (including the CG of Camp Pendleton and the OIC of the ESB) who stated they didn't believe that I would get put out because I was not a punitive issue. My punitive reports were created within months building up to the board of my peer.
@StephenRicket
@StephenRicket Ай бұрын
Agent Orange has been the perfect example of Veterans being DENIED for not being in the right place or at the right time. Persian Gulf Illness is the same. If you weren't in the gulf then you CAN'T have the symptoms. BUTT, my argument is ask the spouses and children of "EXPOSED" Veterans (who did and did NOT) serve in theater or timeframe. How did the family members become affected? The VA has OBSTRUCTED Veterans whose family members that were affected from even submitting a claim to be considered (aka 10-9009A, 10-9009D, 10-9009F, 10-10175, and even 21-0304. My son was born with Poland Syndrome (an Agent Orange birth defect IF "I was a woman who served in Vietnam"). Recently I was service connected for an Adrenal Tumor (0%) which was linked to Southeast Asia service (not combat duty). I was exposed to Agent Orange in Okinawa in the 1980's-90s. But the VA REFUSES to accept Agent Orange Okinawa claims. So this leaves only one other place I could have been exposed to Agent Orange (Persian Gulf). OOPS, they were fighting the 250+ Okinawa claims and have opened Pandora's box for hundreds of thousands of claims. But the VA just falls back on DENY (until they die) or their new option is DEFER. A Veteran who has been diagnosed with PRESUMTIVE SERVICE-CONNECTED conditions should not have to prove a place and time any longer because they people open the door on Pandora's box wider and wider proving that the VA's rules, restrictions, red tape, etc. are only there to hide what actually happened to Veterans. I met a Vietnam Veteran in Florida who EXCITEDLY told me he got his 100% from the VA back in 2007. He said his WIFE had gotten his claim approved. How did your wife get you approved. She got my entire squad approved. WHAT? When they were shot up in a place that the government said they were not, and the government suspected none of them would survive they sent his wife to say goodbye. She had a polaroid and while cleaning the closet found the photos. Some stories have a happy ending while others are BLACKBALLED by the VA (like Persian Gulf claims).

Not to sound pessimistic about insomnia ratings, but I am rated 70% PTSD and 20% CHF for a total of 90%. It seems the VA wants to just say that's just part of something I already have, so trying to get to 100% would be futile. I'll let you know. I have one I submitted in May and when I had my C&P I thought to myself that if everything that goes on with insomnia isn't even given a separate rating just by itself, then I don't know what does. I literally fall asleep when I'm driving, or have to sit in one place for just 30 minutes. It's nothing short of sheer panic when I don't even know I have drifted to the wrong lane while driving and find myself in mortal danger lots of times.
