Bro Forgot The Best ITV Regional Channel. Thames Televison For The USSR (1989]
@tvradiotimelines17 сағат бұрын
I did find an article that confirmed that "from 10-14 April 1989, USSR’s Channel 2 TV station would transmit Thames Television programmes to over 200 million people" but I don't REALLY think that you can count the USSR as a "region" of the UK!. Did not know about this, though,, so very grateful for the info!

Played songs like, Fleetwood Mac, , Robert Palmer. 👍 Then, Global take over , & it's, More music variety apparently ? .plastic pop station, more like, and doing same to other stations up & down the Country . Same tunes everyday. Now Awful. 👎

Would radio luxembourg have been considered a pirate too? Either way, if you had a shortwave radio then the BBC could do nothing about that 😅

I am guessing that they had a numbered list of potential emergency situations and the codes told those on land what was going on without alerting the audience or authorities. Pure guesswork on my part, though!

It was sad when Southern lost the franchise. The channel had such a homely feel, and the presenters like Jack Hargreaves and Fred Dinenage were like old friends. On the night of the hand over to TVS it was New Years Eve and I was out celebrating. My sisters were in and watched as the presenters appeared just before midnight to say goodbye. There was not a dry eye in the house. The new channel TV South tried to move with the times and had a much more dynamic feel, but it just wasn't the same.

I can fully sympathise. I felt a mixture of excitement and sadness when TWW lost its franchise and handed over - eventually - to Harlech. (Yes - I AM that old!) Strangely, I don't remember the bit where the ITA ran an interim service after TWW ended before Harlecj began.

@@tvradiotimelines I meant Wikipedia.
@tvradiotimelines3 ай бұрын
@@andrewwint3052 Thanks for clarifying. I did a lot of additional research and Wikipedia is sometimes contradictory on dates. The Wikipedia page entitled "Timeline of independent radio in the United Kingdom" quotes 15 July 1990 as the split date but the main "Radio Forth" Wikipedia entry (sidebar) specifically states 6 February 1990; this latter date is borne out by other articles I found so I decided to opt for that as the most likely correct date.
