It is a shame that most of the bridge had collapsed, Although it is amazing that it survived as long as it did. Also, those things that are used to support the bridge, I am pretty sure are called abutments.

Good afternoon from Cape Cod ⛵ it's so Serene and beautiful in the White Mountains. Thanks for this really interesting history, it's amazing how that derelict structure once supported hundreds of thousands of pounds of locomotive crossing overhead. Next time please control the bugs 😂✌️🇺🇲

Thanks so much for tuning in! 🙏 It really is crazy to think that a wooden structure like that could hold massive steam engines-and it’s even crazier to think that it’s been standing there since the early 1900s!

@j-mass
@j-mass 7 сағат бұрын
It’s a long hike (5 miles there and back for 10 miles total; it took me roughly 4 hours) but the section you take to get there is quite flat and easy. You start off at the Lincoln Woods Trailhead in Lincoln, NH, and hike all the way down to the Wilderness Trail, then Bondcliff Trail, and the bridge is right off that at the confluence of Black Brook and the East Branch Pemigewasset River!

Funny story about that bridge; about a decade ago, I began hiking in different parks in the area. I saw Georgetown-Rowley on the map, and gave it a go. I parked on Pingree Farm Road, right where it switched to pedestrian only, and hiked to the bridge, turned around and came back. A few years later, I took 97 on the way back from the Ipswich River Wildlife Refuge in an attempt to circumvent Route 1 during the Topsfield Fair. I saw a sign next to Rowley Road for the park, so I decided to check it out. I came across the same bridge from the other side. I instantly remembered seeing that iconic bridge from my previous hike. That became one of my favorite hiking spots. I practically lived there during 2020, LOL. Great drone footage by the way!

This property was originally a Koala Inn before it was a Day's Inn. The notice that you found on the door is a standard notice required by law in most states for hotels and motels. It lists the state laws pertinent to the operation of the hotel. These are not the "hotel's rules". The room rates listed are the maximum rates allowed for that room. They would only come into play during special events. The "collapsed wall" (railing) on the building was not collapsed but likely taken out to facilitate the positioning of a dumpster to push the rubble from the clearing of the rooms prior to demolition.

I've enjoyed the videos that J-MASS has done in the past, but this one was hard to watch. Just a suggestion, but wider shots would have been nice and were you holding the camera or was it swinging on a rope? The camera was all over the place. Finally, any ideas why there were so many tires from one end of the place to another? The other thing is I wonder why they left so many file cabinets there when they left? They could have been put to good use by others.
@j-mass

Thank you for the comment, I do appreciate constructive criticism like that! I was holding my phone while filming, but admittedly I was not being very “smooth” with my cinematography, so it comes off as rather bumpy and rough-my apologies! Also, I agree, it is strange that so many files were left behind!

Back in 2002/2003 I took a graphic design college course and the building for that, for whatever reason, was on this campus instead of the actual college. The google maps coords are 43°33'31.3"N 71°29'41.5"W but this building held both the graphic design/printing press classes and the electrician classes. The buildings right behind it were prison buildings with actual prisoners (who helped me when my car got stuck in a pothole in the winter on that road). Nowadays those classes are held at the actual college and I'm not sure whats going on with the building now. I should go drive by and check. We weren't allowed to go up near these buildings though, even if they were abandoned.

If you explore further above the tunnel there are a few alignment towers left. Those were used to make the tunnel was being dug and designed in a straight path as possible. The line also at one point was electrified and doubled tracked. There is also an abandon building by the train bridge close to the deerfield river if I remember correctly that was the pump house so much to explore in that one area alone. Also you can visit the central shaft building which is located on Central Shaft road not far from the tunnel and if your lucky you see how it clears exhausts from the tunnel when trains go through

@@j-mass The 75 miles from Northampton to Clinton should be completed by end of 2025 however depends on the amount volunteers and grants that are available from both Clinton and from the state. In 2019 Wayland and Weston was completed. In winter of 2023 a new parking area for the Clinton part of the trail for the swampy East portal has been acquired and ready for use the address is 447 Berlin Rd Clinton once complete the rail trail from Northampton to Boston will be 104 miles long with multiple access points for the public to either stop and do a section or walk the entire thing over multiple days
