I've never met anyone who didn't enjoy the luge - I laughed my ass off racing friends - you can go SO fast! Regarding Milford, you're better to overnight in Te Anau which is a couple of hours closer, and start the drive from there. Check out the glow worm caves in Te Anau while you're at it. Definitely take your own car to Milford so you can stop whenever/wherever - the drive is worth the trip on its own. Oh and what everyone says about Queenstown activities is true, bring serious $$$$!

The alternative to going from Queenstown to Milford Sound is to stay at Lake Te Anau for the night. Then go to Milford Sound by your own vehicle or book the bus tour. Te Anau is the halfway point from Queenstown. Doubtful Sound is the other trip people do. Both are good. If it is raining then there is 1000 waterfalls. Instagram worthy. Queenstown to Te Anau drive 2.20 hrs. Te Anau to Milford Sound under 2 hrs. Allow more time for photos.

Luge in Queenstowns pretty trash tbh, the view is mint though.. but if you want a fun luge, and the proper experience, the one in Rotorua is the one to go to, Icebars overrated, the spas are mint, skiing/snowboarding is cool, the lake is nice, sounds lame but the steamship over the lake to the farm for lunch is actually so good, jetboats cool, views and vibe are undefeated.. overall Queenstown is hella nice and a definite spot to check out in NZ, heaps to do around there, worth driving out to the outer towns like arrowtown etc also
