I don't actually dislike soft tips, but I am more for steel tip. My soft tips fall out a lot while the steel tip doesn't and there is something about a normal darts board which I love the sound etc.

I always get the impression the Matchplay is the hardest to win, long games and with leg play there aren’t as many chances for players to get back into matches as set play, Plus it’s known for the extreme heat and is the second most elite tournament with as you say the best 32 players in the world
@samcarter74411 сағат бұрын
Mason not making much sense talking about how hard the Grand Slam Sunday is to win Grand Slam Sunday: Semi best of 31 legs, Final best of 31 legs - maximum 62 legs played Masters, Europeans, UK Open, Players Championships: Quarters best of 19 legs, Semi best of 21 legs and Final best of 21 legs - maximum 61 legs and you have to do an extra walk on, more TV breaks etc
@chrismasondarts11 сағат бұрын
Long breaks in between matches, time to relax and reset, playing best of 31 matches are a totally different discipline.

Wouldn't it have made more sense to do this vid with Durrant since he's actually won one of the PDC tv titles and several BDO? Mase is cool guy and has valid opinions of course, but don't remember him ever getting to a big final on either side or premier league... Durrant's opinion would have more basis in experience
@Edgartvdarts14 сағат бұрын
Mason has played in these events far more. I don’t subscribe to the camp of if you won something you have a stronger opinion. Understanding of and application of skill are 2 different conversations and j don’t see the cross over

Flip the coin on Premier League as you can also play well all weeks and have a bad day and you're out. So I'd say PL is hardest to win.
@anthonyfoster759020 сағат бұрын
i would personally have the matchplay over the UK open as you are playing a top player every round. In the UK open you could in theory get a so called easy draw.
@stevenholden551721 сағат бұрын
I agree with the logic behind your list I will never understand the PDC putting the premier league as a triple crown event when in my opinion the grand slam is a much harder tournament to win what do you think ?

I think the important thing that you need to clarify here is hardest to win for whom, as it will differ greatly between elite players and those lower down the rankings. Taylor clearly found the matchplay quite 'easy' but didn't win the UK open nearly as often. Gilding definitely has had more success the other way round. The longer format, 1 match per day, events like the worlds/matchplay/slam will generally favour the elites, whereas the weekend tournaments like the UK Open/Players/Euros will provide more opportunities for the up and comers. Grand Prix might be the best (or worst?) of both worlds, where the early rounds are quite high variance, so the elites have issues there, but the format is long enough at the end that it'll take a quality player to win it. In any case, I think you have the UK open far too high, as the open draw means you can get through a lot of rounds without actually having to play a top player.

I remember about 21 years ago, i was 15 years old and i won a junior darts tournament at a place called St Osyth. I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Mason always thought he was a top man. Then he lost to Mick Manning in the final and i remember Chris and Mick walking through the campsite drunk as skunks in each others arms, signing drunken songs haha i thought thats sportmanship when you see it haha.

Grand Prix should be a lot higher. Far more upset results than any other tournament with the very short round 1 format and the unique double in double out format. World Matchplay still the second most prestigious title but got to be one of the simpler ones to win for a form player as over the longer format the better player prevails with greater regularity than the first to 6 or 10 of other events.

I don't know this year if he can make the conversation, but if he doesn't obtain a card for 2025 I'd say Damian Mol. Watching him in the Super Series and his Challenge Tour results in partnership with his Euro Tour performance in Rosmalen. There is a proper player in there it just feels like it's waiting to click. But when it does I get the feeling he is going to take off and start gathering some really significant results and at a fast pace in 2025 if not 2026

@@Edgartvdarts No, not really I was simply just pointing out that if a player is good enough they will eventually get a tour card. Then the real problems begin because they will have to be really good to maintain it.

I would add Harrysson and Stowe Buntz to that list, Stowe had a run to the Grand Slam QF and won 3 CDC events last year. If Stowe could commit to the PDC tour he would do well.

I find it strange that nobody seems to know what's going on with Cadby. I have a friend who was left sweating for almost two years on what should have been a minor visa problem in France. The relevant department concentrated solely on Ukrainians for a few months and a backlog of "normal" visa problems piled up. At no point was she able to ask anyone what the hell was going on. The nearest thing she had to any news was what her lawyer heard about general delays and timings on the grapevine. For all I know, this could be the case with Cadby. He seemingly played here on a visitors' visa, then lied to get a visa that would allow him to play in the UK. (Given the length and seriousness of his criminal record, I can't really blame him!) He and his management appeared to think things were well advanced in sorting out the problems. If there was a Home Office refusal to let him in, as a result of his robbery & assault convictions and time in prison, I would have thought that would have been made plain by the Home Office at the start. It is odd that there was no explanation from anyone that the wasn't in the Aussie Masters last year. Cadby himself seems to be maintaining radio silence.
@aidan77745 күн бұрын
I heard he was on a visitor visa when he first came over 2016/17/18.. he apparently lied on his visa to come over then waited a year to get a visa successful 2019.. he had 3 or 4 years to the visa but only came over for like 3 months then covid came.. That visa would have ran out 2022 and then he used a visitor visa for q school last year.. Matt porter said his inactivity meant he wasn't selected for aussie masters 2023.. but some news said he's been arrested multiple times past couple years atleast 3 times last year and that's probably why as well as the visa problems he couldn't come over to Germany for pro tours etc, he has various court listings in tassie last year, and he's serving like 2 years in prison from September can't see him returning to darts anytime soon not like he can play dpa when he can play cuz he got banned from one of their venues and can't see him getting a visa
