I appreciate the love you put into that Super beetle. I built a 72 bug to crawl around Moab Utah before the Internet was worthwhile. Put a bus transaxle, Porche CV's, raised spindles, and crawled to places stock 4x4's struggled if they dared. I was pleased to discover that they actually do float! Not only that but they can navigate in deep water (Don't try it unless you want to repack all your bearings).

Noice! What size summer tires are you running? Also I am interested in if/what you did to lift the front suspension?
@GrumpyEspenGarage3 ай бұрын
Thank you. 215/75r15 front and 215/80r15 rear. Raised the front 1" or so with springs meant for the convertible. You do get raised spindles and spacers to put between the body and the spring if you want to go higher.

I like the frame you have there. I think i would have moved the exhaust further from the unit to stop it being drawn in to the fresh air intake. In my experience, the unit with the tank above doesn't need priming, even if it has run empty. It might fail to start first time, but you reduce the risk of spilling diesel out to the environment.
@GrumpyEspenGarage3 ай бұрын
As you can see in the movie, when I walk around the unit. I have an extension tube for the exhaust, it's clamped to the side of the unit when not in use. I just didn't fit it for this first start. I have heard it's important to prime, so I did 🤷 The spilling is easily available by putting something under it, I would if I knew. Thanks for the feedback 🙂
@MarcusHawksley3 ай бұрын
@@GrumpyEspenGarage I had noticed, but this way you more engagement for the algorithm! I noticed the frame had a bracket on the side. Are you going to hang it outside the VW for your travels or is it going to be used for something else?
@GrumpyEspenGarage3 ай бұрын
@MarcusHawksley the frame is to hang it on the wheel to get it off the ground when camping. I have a lavvo (tent) when I'm out travelling with my bug, I have a wood stove for it. But it takes too much space, l also need to carry wood. It's too much in the little bug. So, I will try this out. Sometimes, I also use other cars, so it's practical that it's portable.

Can I ask what size tiers you are running on your bug?
@GrumpyEspenGarage3 ай бұрын
Yes, of course, the size I went for on these rims is 205x70/15 studded winter tyres. The summer wheels are a bit bigger.

This might be the coolest "not over the top" but capable bug I have seen.......... I might be falling in love with bugs again and build one of these instead! I may be stealing some of your ideas if I do get to build one!

I was thinking it could be mounted under the rear seat and plumbed into the stock heater channels. You would have to remove it from the metal box.

I won't be using this in the car, the original heater is good enough. This is for heat in my tent/lavvo when camping.

@GrumpyEspenGarage4 ай бұрын
@SVisionario4 ай бұрын
@GrumpyEspenGarage4 ай бұрын
Aha, herlig.
