@@specodduszy better said melancholic songs. But he also has a lot of joyful songs and even comic songs. Especially the ones composed by himself are joyful and funny.

For those who don't understand French: try to find a way to translate what Joe Dassin says in his interviews, because it's always very interesting, thoughtful and calm, we realize that he was very cultured -- Pour celles et ceux qui ne comprennent pas le français : essayez de trouver un moyen pour traduire ce que dit Joe Dassin dans ses interview, car c'est toujours très intéressant, réfléchi et posé on se rend compte qu'il était très cultivé.

It’s amazing he preferred to build his career singing in French until now people believe he was French. I told my friends he was from USA but they didn’t believe me until they searched in google

He liked France and the French music maybe because he arrived in France at the age of 13 and he was impressed by it. He always loved America and he was proud of being American, he went there every year, he even went to study at the University of Michigan, where he also was a professor of anthropology for a time and where he received a prize, a Hopwood Award for one of his short novels he wrote (in English, of course) at that time. He spoke French very well, indeed, but he always kept his American accent and his style was always American. How he said, he sang French music in his American style. He lived in two worlds, how it is named his second album "Les Deux Mondes De Joe Dassin". But his first album was "Joe Dassin A New York" and it was recorded at New York, in November 1966. I also didn't know that he was an American, years ago, I found out that only much later. Now he is in his beloved America, for ever!
