Lovely work, as always. I’ll definitely take not always simplifying compositions under advisement. Just out of curiosity, you’re no longer using Olympus/OM System gear?

Thanks for stopping by Micheal! I'm still on both systems. I have quite a bit of commercial work that requires larger than 20MP resolution this year. So I decided to add something to my set of tools that could fulfil those needs. The GFX is still quite new, so I'm shooting with this camera quite a bit to get a better feeling for it, but both systems have their place.

Nice, great aspect ratio, but not for Morocco, IMHO... I spent over 3 Months there doing street... My BEST lens on Olympus om-d e-m1 mark iii was the 7artisans 7.5mm fish eye. But opposite to yours it is an intimate and chaos documenting street lens...got 2 of my best shots in Marrakech souk... Thanks for sharing ❤

The EM1 Series. For sure. More robust, more geared towards the professional and bigger. I honestly still LOVE the EM1X. Ergonomically still the best camera I own. It’s built like a tank and will withstand the extremes. And the size / weight is also manageable.

Those smallhd monitors are insanely overpriced. 2-3k for a 7inch monitor is diabolical

They are. But they are also by far the best and most reliable. I’ve gone through many cheaper ones… but my SmallHd still looks and works like on day 1.

@chriseyrewalker portkeys is pretty solid or ninja atomos or Blackmagic 12g 7inch Video Assist all amazing quality around $300-600 range. Smallhd used to be an affordable company then something happened and now there charging insane prices for the same monitors 🤷‍♂️ the quality didn't get any better they're just charging 2-3k for 7 inch monitors 😅

Chris, don't know whether you still read and answer comments on this 3 years old video. Well I try. Watched it after seeing your prior comparison video about the three 12-xxx Pro zooms where you mentioned that you are a 12-100 guy and have that lens attached permanently on one of your bodies and other lenses are dedicated for special occassions. Has this changed since you’ve added the 8-25 to your lineup? I too make 80% of my photos with the 12-100 that is glued to my OM-1. Other lenses like 42/1.8 60/2.8 macro, 75-300 etc. are on the camera just a short time for special needs and then the 12-100 is mounted again as my default configuration. I find it difficult to have two always-on lenses and decide which one I should put in my bag. And carrying both adds quite some weight especially for hiking compared to a 12-100 + ultralight Laowa 7.5 f2 that doubles for astro photography and northern lights. The downside of having only a prime as my ultrawide lens is that I have to change lenses more often and thus think twice whether the composition I have in mind really needs the switch to 7.5 mm or whether using the 12-100 with a tighter crop to 12 mm would be just good enough. 😏 I believe you carry more gear on a hike than I’m willing to carry so you probably bring with you both lenses on two bodies. Still which camera/lens is the one you normally carry outside your bag?
@chriseyrewalker
@chriseyrewalker 15 күн бұрын
Hey, I think the quick answer, is to stick with your 7.5. Especially if you’re using this for Astro / northern lights, as the 8-25mm is only an F4. Nowadays I use the 8-25 and 12-100mm almost equally. Again, depending on the project / subject. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I’m well aware of the ultra wide aspect. It’s when you use a 2x anamorphic lens on a 17:9 recording aspect. I could have cropped the sides to reduce it down to a 2.39:1 aspect, but I didn’t want to lose all the anamorphic characteristics of the special lenses we used. I highly recommend watching this on a big screen, then it actually works as intended if you ask me.

Honestly, the EM1X is, to this day, the ergonomically best camera I’ve ever used. It’s just perfect. However, the OM1 produces a better image and outperforms the EM1X in every aspect. Not by as much as it might seem sometimes though. And a camera I prefer holding and ultimately USING, is still a better camera than one I don’t. I’ve shot the most and some of the best work with the EM1X. Still love picking it up to this day. Always will.

I just saw the big price drop on the G2. Unbeatable price!! Back when I got this kit, I believe the smallrig should kit didn’t exist yet. Nowadays, I’d go with the smallrig one, as the top handle is much better.

Sure thing. It’s a LuckyStraps strap. Hand made in Australia. I’ve had that strap for YEARS and it still looks like new. Amazing quality. I did swap the ends to peak design quick releases so I can swap it around to any of my cameras. I believe LuckyStraps has a quick release system of their own nowadays though. So, that’ll save you that.

Let me share with you what is missing in the OM-1 that present in the EM-1 mkiii: 1) Raw to JPEG toggle mode. In the OM-1 if you press a programmed button to go into RAW you have no way to go back; in the Mkiii you do -- to Raw + JPEG for example, or just back to JPEG. 2) In image playback, Image review Comparison: This feature was present in the Mkiii and left out of the OM-1. Judge for yourself if these features are of importance to you.
