I got distracted by all the punches on “our.” It didn’t make sense. I didn’t think “bad actor,” but I did think “bad choices.”

My belief is do the play as intended, not make some BS political statement for your own self benefit and to reflect some ill-guided perception of today's political environment. "Cis-male" does not need to be thrown at people's faces. Respect the play and that's it. For example, can Hamlet be played by a non-white person? Perhaps. But it is not what the author intended.
@johnnotrealname81685 күн бұрын
I do not mind if it were adapted elsewhere necessarily but the way this is done is quite ridiculous.
@Buskeeeeeeee4 күн бұрын
Shakespeare dramas are very political in nature. Claiming that throwing in a political statement wasn’t what the play intended to do is totally bullshit. Productions like this are exactly what Shakespeare had in mind for his plays.

@12neef yeah, we went at the weekend and it was a cheap and entertaining day out. I loved seeing a production of a play that I studied 20 years ago looking at it fresh. I don’t know that top commentor was on about :)

@@shelleyjames4446shakespear has been portrayed as high art for centuries but in reality it was raucous. The actors reacted to the crowd, argued with them. But hollywood made it seem like everything was well planned and respectful. I think “Shakespear in love” came pretty close to how it was really like.
