Ok, seems like Ultravox here has accepted being included in the punk / new wave category and are trying to surf that wave for a moment...

I was lucky enough to see Ultravox in the late 70s when they were on tour promoting their Systems of Romance album. Awesome gig! Awesome band! John Foxx so charismatic. Great night.

Ultravox (still with !) could have become one of the greatest bands of all time . The German newspaper "Musik Eypress" counted the album "Ha!Ha!Ha! among the 30 most important LPs of the 70s. Their mixture of punk and electronic music was incredible. No band before or since has done that again. Unfortunately, when John Foxx and the band split up, both parties went only in the direction of electronic music, but the band with more commercial success.

"Ultravox (still with !) could have become one of the greatest bands of all time" - could have? They became! They influenced just about everybody, both with John and with Midge. Judging by creative impact they're up there with the greats.

I distinctly remember playing that album on the lowest audible volume on Grandpa's enormous phonograph console after Grandpa and Grandma were asleep, pressing my ear into one speaker or another, which sort of defeated the purpose of "Hi-Fi".

This must be Ultravox at their heaviest. I've seen quite a few early clips but nothing as raucous as this one! Last time I saw John Foxx live was circa 2009 performing the Analog Synth show at The Roundhouse. He barely twitched a muscle throughout the entire set. It's hard to believe this is one and the same person!

EPIC!!! No disrespect to Midge Ure, but Foxx was such an enigmatic front man (and frankly, a genius) who should have become vastly more famous. Time will look fondly on his accomplishments.
@spindleswift8667 Жыл бұрын
Midge Ure was perfect for those later recordings, but Fox was fantastic for these ones. His voice lol was perfect for Punk, but he was probably too (ahem) well-groomed to be convincing to the movement.

I don't understand how you can say they're "underrated" with all the praise they received in the last 15 years. In fact Foxx's version is much more rated than the much more commercially successful Ure one. Time to leave that "underrated" whining behind.
