It's a bit odd that the spirit is usually portrayed as looking like a woman or girl in most adaptations, since the book said it looked like a man.

- [00:00-00:56] The poem "A Child to his Sick Grandfather" by Joanne Bailey depicts a child's concern for his ailing grandfather and their shared memories. - [01:22-02:19] The poem conveys a melancholic tone through language techniques like alliteration, highlighting the narrator's grief about the grandfather's condition. - [03:27-04:24] The metaphor of "when the fire turns blue" symbolizes the narrator's commitment to stay with his grandfather until the end. - [05:36-06:58] The fixed rhyme scheme in the poem suggests the inevitability of the grandfather's decline and death. - [07:12-08:06] Contextual factors, such as Bailey's Christian upbringing, influence the theme of reverence and respect for elders in the poem. - [08:19-09:40] The poem reflects Romantic poetry conventions by focusing on everyday characters and emotional experiences. - [10:23-11:48] Exam preparation involves analyzing language, structure, and context to craft insightful responses that address the thematic elements of the poem. - [13:00-14:10] Structuring exam responses with embedded quotes, high-level terminology, and relevant contextual links enhances their effectiveness.

This is so helping my revision!! thanks so much! here's some notes on the video aswell 00:12 Introduction: The video aims to provide a concise analysis of "Love's Dog" by Jen Hadfield, presenting a balanced perspective on love. It promises a quick overview of the poem's key elements to aid exam preparation. 01:36 Language Technique - Metaphor: The poem is rich in metaphors, utilizing medical terminology like "diagnosis" and "prognosis" to describe love. The metaphorical use of medical language suggests love as both a diagnosis (identifying symptoms of happiness) and a prognosis (predicting outcomes of pain). 02:47 Structural Feature - Cyclic Structure: The poem employs a cyclic structure, bookending with medical imagery ("diagnosis" and "prognosis") and concluding with "sick pet." This structure reinforces the idea that love is an inescapable cycle of pain, akin to a disease. 05:07 Language Technique - Anaphora: Hadfield uses anaphora, repeating "what I love about love is" and "what I hate about love is," to highlight the dual nature of love. This repetition underscores the poem's exploration of the joy and misery inherent in love. 07:18 Metaphor Analysis - "burnt toast and bone meal": Hadfield employs vivid metaphors like "bone meal" to depict love as destructive, capable of reducing individuals to dust. The use of "bone meal" as a fertilizer implies that love has the power to nourish growth but also to destroy. 08:53 Conclusion: The analysis highlights the poem's use of language features and structural elements to convey the dualities of love. Hadfield's portrayal challenges idealized notions of love found in traditional poetry, offering a more realistic depiction reflective of contemporary attitudes and societal trends.

Assume that no matter what this guy says, if the Bard put the character in, and especially if given a name, he considered him essential to the story with his own flavor. (maybe it's sour grapes because I got cast as Ross.) But it's probably more because this guy is someone people use to get rudimentary ideas for tests where just knowing who the major vs. minor characters are is often tested, which is quite low-level questioning.

Just FYI - a clause, even a subordinate one, must contain a verb (and usually a subject as well), so 'quite suddenly', 'luckily', and 'very noisily' are not subordinate clauses; they are adverbials or adverbial phrases.
