Wow! I had the C64 version of this game and didn't know it was based off an arcade game until just now!

At one point I lost most of my games. I sold a bunch and various friends got some of my others. I literally had my nintendo and just this game left and played it religiously for what I want to say was a full year.

The enemy pink "I-Type" ship bares an uncanny resemblance to the real life MiG-29 Russian fighter jet. I feel like this was intentional given the fact that the U.S. was participating in the Cold War with Russia at the Time and this game released in 1981, four years after the MiG-29 made its first flight. (I'm autistic and love aviation😋.)
Sweet! Im watching this video exactly 8 years to the day that they posted this video lol

Interestingly, the X68000 version never seems to have more than three regular enemies on screen at a time (treating boss characters as a separate fourth). Unlike the SNES games though this never comes across as a drawback, as the action is kept constant and the game never has to graphically compromise in other areas. Flames, barrels, weapons and items are all present as additional objects without any clash.

I got good at Elevator Action because the machine at the Magic Mountain arcade in 1983 was broken and for some reason didn't require quarters to play. So I played for an entire afternoon with my friend David and no one was the wiser.
