Does anyone find it absolutely bonkers that one of the best constructed solos ever is from an Ibanez review video? Like it’s not insane but very strange, I listen to the song portion of this video about as often as I would listen to any other song. Just ordered my guitarist the Seafoam RGA as a birthday gift, hopefully he likes it lol, they’re very hard to find in good shape for a decent price

For the RGD, it’s ridiculous that they didn’t go with all gold hardware. Also, 26.5” - 28” would’ve been infinitely better. Also, they should’ve moved the neutral fret closer to the nut. As for the RG9, it’s hilarious they didn’t go multiscale and cheaped out on locking tuners. 28” is just too short and they put the thinnest strings on these as possible from the factory.

Endless 3 notes per string? They most definitely are not endless. I thought this video would be about the arpeggio part not all this easy stuff. I’m sure if someone can’t play Scarified it’s not because of the intro part.

Awesome intro...!!! Sometimes the most profane jokes are the best: Naming a song "technical difficulties", cause people, who´ll try playing it, will, for sure, face "technical difficulties", is genius...

#3 fix prevents proper palm muting IMO(there is a light yet really prominent pm on the original record). But it is still a useful technique definitely worth checking

I thought you were going to talk about how there are different versions of the arpeggio parts tabbed out and people are unsure which version to play.

Paul Gilbert’s technique was not like this. Yes you are correct in tabbing his runs out, but his right hand cycle was a more contained motion without jumping very far outside for each rotation. The secret to keeping it this way was his left hand muting the lower string on his up strokes. He always plucked 2 but got 1 note with more emphasis.

You have too much yaw. There is a buzz induced from imperfections in the pick. Pick perpendicular to the string.

Thanks, this actually dumbs it down enough enough for me to follow. One of the main reasons I got an 8-string was to try to learn Meshuggah. Technically, this song is simple: a lot of tremolo picking on one string but the speed and rhythms make it a real motherf*cker to try to learn. 😂

Gilbert plows through two strings all the time both directions. The left hand cleans it up and that is the real “secret”. Troy Grady called this “swiping”. I noticed with distortion bridge pick up it adds a percussive sound common to Gilbert’s aggressive sound. The neck pick up masks it a lot and makes the single note sound even cleaner… but he is usually hitting two strings when crossing
@ismelljello
@ismelljello 2 ай бұрын
I agree, this video is misinformed. Anton Oparin also explained “swiping” too in his “revelation Paul Gilbert string changing explained” video at 10 mins 11 seconds. The index mutes the lower string whenever he up strokes, so he still gets a single note, allowing him to be more aggressive.

nice that you pointed out it can be played on a 6 string, but to be honest, I'd go further and say nobody cares for the harmony or melody on this song, everyone is here for the rhythm, so unless you want to actually perform the song with a band, there's no reason to worry about the fretting hand besides that pretty memorable bend section

Back in the day when i was playing metal every day, i could play bleed both with alternate picking and with 2 downstrokes. Although, i do have to admit that playing it with the 2 downstrokes got my right hand too tired to play anything after that song.

I dont know why Ibanez continues to insist on the the beginner looking fret markers on guitars like the 9. Everything else is killer.

The only secret to achieve mastery is to not use force. Force and tensions in muscles prevents consistent flow and therefore speed.

if you see Paul Gilbert playing he play's first downpick on the 4th string and the second time he plays that string he then goes up. Check the video of him playing and you can clearly see and listen to it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/qNRdqs1l1bjUeXk.html&ab_channel=FrancescoPazzaglia
