I have never seen cabinets bolted to a floor. I have demoed and installed a lot of cabinets. Never once have I seen one bolted to the floor.
@matrixgc5 күн бұрын
Yes, cabinets are typically bolted to walls. However, freestanding units like islands and peninsulas, or cabinets facing uneven walls, require floor bolting to prevent tipping.

So we shouldn't use a mallet to put together the laminate planks wouldn't that make it so that liquids could seep through if we left a space?
@matrixgcАй бұрын
Using a mallet directly on the plank can damage the locking mechanism and leave gaps between the planks. But you can use a tapping block to distribute the force of the mallet and gently tap the planks together. If you install the planks correctly and they lock together, there won't be any space for liquids to seep through. Still, you can use a sealant for finishing. But remember to use a sealant that is made specifically for laminate floors.

Can grouting be done after a week ?
@matrixgc4 ай бұрын
It's really important to wait until the thinset mortar is totally dry before you start grouting. This usually takes about 24 to 48 hours, but it can vary depending on the type of mortar, how humid it is, and how warm it is. It's a good idea to get to grouting as soon as the mortar is dry. However, if it's been a while since you laid the tiles, you might want to give the area a good vacuum first. Always check the instructions for the adhesive you're using to make sure you're following the right timing, especially if it's humid or cold.

How come you don't use primer, or sealer, or a decoupler?
@matrixgc5 ай бұрын
This is a good question! A decoupler is typically used to manage movement and moisture in installations prone to these issues, such as wood subfloors or cracked concrete. Since we were working with uncracked concrete, a decoupler wasn't necessary in this case. Regarding primer usage, while primer generally improves the bond between tiles and the floor, the specific mortar we used (Ultraflex 1 www.homedepot.com/p/Mapei-Ultraflex-1-50-lb-White-Flooring-Powder-Mortar-with-Polymer-2905723PP/202198584) does not necessarily require a primer on concrete floors. However, if you have gypsum-based patchings or leveling substrates applying a suitable primer is necessary. Porcelain tile is typically dense and impervious, and as such, it doesn't necessarily need to be sealed. However, applying a sealant to the grout lines is advisable, especially in wet areas, to protect them from stains and moisture. Although our project was tiling a kitchen and living room and was not in a wet area we still applied sealant to the grout lines. I recommend referring to the associated article for comprehensive details. matrixgc.com/install-porcelain-tile-over-a-concrete-floor-like-a-pro/

What causes air pockets in tiling and does back buttering the tile create a stronger bound?
@matrixgc9 ай бұрын
Air pockets in tiling can result from different reasons like inadequate thinnest coverage, surface contamination, improper trowel notching, differences in absorption rates, or insufficient bedding of the tile. Back buttering, the application of a thin layer of mortar to the back of the tile, can enhance the bond strength by compensating for irregularities, improving coverage, and reducing the risk of voids. It is especially beneficial when addressing challenges that may compromise the adhesion between the tile and the substrate, contributing to a more durable and solid tile installation.

Hi dear, In this video, we are sharing 10 mistakes that you should avoid when installing a laminate floor. Number 7 is "running laminate flooring parallel to joists," which is a mistake. So, you should run them perpendicular to the joists.

which is better, porcelain or ceramic? when should I use each?
@matrixgc Жыл бұрын
Porcelain tile is a type of tile that is stronger, more durable, and more water resistant. Ceramic tile tends to be less expensive. Basically, ceramic tile tends to be sold in smaller than 12x12 pieces. Larger tile is usually sold in porcelain because it is less prone to cracking during installation. Also if you install a porcelain tile floor it is more resistant to cracking if a family member drops an item on it like a heavy toy or glass.
I want to combine two row houses together and add an additional floor to it. I was told these two properties were once one building and was later split into two and now I want to combine them together again. What are the obstacles that I should expect to do a project like this? I also consider taking down the whole thing and building from scratch because I don’t really like how short the basement is.
@matrixgc Жыл бұрын
As a construction company, we understand that combining two row houses and adding an additional floor to the structure can be a complex undertaking, but it is definitely achievable with the right approach. There are several obstacles you may face during the process, such as zoning laws, building codes, and structural concerns that need to be addressed. Additionally, if the row houses are in a designated historic district, preserving the original building's integrity may be a priority. We would be happy to set up a consultation to discuss your project and provide you with a quote.
