My boyfriend died in the ocean 3 days ago…. I was right next to him. This was his favorite song. He showed it to me 2 months ago at a bus station and I immediately fell in love with the medley as I sunk into his neck while sharing headphones. Now it just sounds like a bittersweet lullaby and I’m angry at this reality. How do I live with this, you are my world Lamar

This song is too cool for today's generation. And I wish I could go splittin' off to Britain or Norway.

The first song I ever heard from her was "Broken Hearted Melody" when I was 8 years old and I fell in love with it. What a set of pipes. She sang so well.

Catchy but I think the song should have been left just an instrumental. Why must we put words to it ???
@rogerhorky7258 Жыл бұрын
because back in the 1950s, they wrote lyrics for everything. the theme from bonanza, the theme from star trek, the theme from the dick van dyke show all had lyrics.

Because the lyricist gets a royalty. This is why most songs have lyrics written for them, even when the words are rarely performed. One well-known story -- by writing nonsense lyrics for the Star Trek theme, Gene Roddenberry earned a 50 percent royalty (and screwed composer Alexander Courage out of half his royalties.) But what about those rare times the lyrics are performed? Where jazz is concerned, I think we should be more accepting. We seldom have a situation involving "the original version" and "the cover." Pretty much all jazz tunes are covers. When we hear a unexpected vocal version of a familiar song, we should consider it a treat. Consider the examples of Opus One by the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra or Take the A Train by the Duke Ellington Orchestra. These are the instrumental hit versions we know today. But did you know there are lyrics? Check out the Duke Ellington/Betty Roche version of A Train or the Gene Krupa/ Anita O'Day version of Opus One. These vocal versions are are every bit as valid as the hit versions. A familiar jazz tune with unexpected lyrics simply offers us a new way to appreciate a song.
