Quails are so cute! What a treat, Ari! I've never seen a quail species, as in really *seen* it, just flushed by chance... and heard (in Sweden). I've seen Painted Buttonquail (and got lousy photo) and Jungle Bush-quail (good photo plus so-so video), though, now that I think of it. But that's all. This was a lovely video 🙂

10:47 completely agree. Guides are nice, but birding and exploring on your own is on just another level. One can enjoy things at their own pace, and trying to identify birds you see for the first time is always exciting. When we're with a guide, they do all the work for us and all we're doing is taking photographs or videos. it's nice if one is interested only in photography, but exploring places on our own where it can be safely done is always a more fulfilling travel experience, even if we get to spot only a few species.
