Isn't the blade too thick for such thin knife? Would not be very slicey

it depends more on the grind geometry than on thickness how slicey the knife will perform.

This is by far one of my favorite reviews of ALL the knife reviewers that I watch consistently. The fact that you compared this Rough Ryder to so many other makes and models to give others a good sense of the overall size was perfect. Great job, need more reviews just like this.

@nerv5th

No it is fake or counterfeit because they used original logos and made almost 1:1 copy. Vespa and MG make clones they copy the design and make some adjustments but don't copy the original logos so the customer knows it is a clone and the risk you get scammed is almost zero.

I saved up for one of these black coated ones when they came out... most money I ever paid for a knife. The clip never seemed to keep it secure and I ended up losing it. So I got pissed and ordered another. I tried for the longest time and we never clicked. I think G10 was all the rage, but I wasn't too impressed by it. The hand feel was ok. The blade shape impractical for everyday tasks. The disc was some strange thing that didn't deploy as good as thumb studs for me. I had the blade get a small chip. The locks serrations tear up your skin and it developed terrible lock stick. Ended up just abusing it as a beater until it ended up in the Wifes glove box. Can't find that one now. I can see them being collectable because they're discontinued. Had I put it away and not abused it I would sell it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I see some valid points you described. I don't know what the marketing was back then but to me, this knife should be considered primarily as a tactical self-defense knife, not an EDC utility knife this is why you had a bad time with it the tanto profile was after all intended for stabbing and penetration efficiency.

Drawing a line is hard. I made this video 7 years ago and I have pushed my line countless of times. Everybody who is collecting high-ticket items has gone through this phase. Right now I try to manage my collecting addiction with a monthly budget that I don't cross and If I want to buy a more expensive item I have to sell something or transfer the budget from one month to the next. Have a nice day.

I just don't see any value in most rough ryders. Getting $5 worth of knife for $5 isn't anything special, it's just cheap trash. A couple years ago, Fallkniven had a half off sale on their LTCs. $30 for laminated SG2, that's value. I bought a dozen.
@nerv5th
@nerv5th 14 күн бұрын
Yes that is nice a fallkniven for 30$ but not everybody has or wants to spend 30$ for a knife this is why rough Ryder knives are great value you are getting exactly what you pay for. I have seen and bought many knives for much more than 5$ that we just like you mentioned just cheap trash. I like the Rough Ryder brand because they don't sell you overpriced trash they sell ok average knives that are affordable for everybody.

How do the ceramic bearings feel as opposed to bronze washers? Is the detent really weak?
@nerv5th
@nerv5th 16 күн бұрын
Compared with the original the detent is weaker than on the original. The action is very smooth on the Fake. That is due to the ball-bearing washers.
@biogon
@biogon 13 күн бұрын
The detent is weak but it can be made tighter by disassembling and increasing lockbar strength. Doing so does not impede the action due to the use of bearings instead of nylatron like in the original.

I love high-end fakes, when the price is a mere fraction of the criminally overpriced version. So many branded knives are ridiculously overpriced these days. It is beyond belief. And many of the fakes are really good quality too, and will last you a lifetime. I have been using a fake Emerson and a Spyderco for a decade now. The one you are showing is on its way to me right now. It is a beauty.
@nerv5th
@nerv5th 20 күн бұрын
The previous Emerson fakes were low quality exactly what you would expect for 15$ this one is lightyears apart from those fakes. It shows how the Chinese OEM progressed in the last 10 years.

@@nerv5th Yes, I have the black G10 CQC-7BW serrated Tanto version. It still holds up very well. Even if it is considered low quality, it feels very solid, and well made. I looked it up. Turns out I actually bought mine 7 year ago, for the staggering price of €14.49. I also have the Horseman version. I would not mind a Horseman custom in the same style, titanium/micarta/Böhler.

Decent looking knife, but why bother if you are going to offer it with 7Cr17 steel! Buck also could have made it with American made scales. They must have plenty of Traditional handles sitting around in their USA factories. On your specs, you state "Pivot Assembly: Caged ball bearing washers". I believe that must be a mistake. Yes?
@nerv5th
@nerv5th Ай бұрын
What mistake? it has ball-bearing washers. I have not taken it apart but I have looked inside from the top and was the bearing poking out from the washers and the smoothness is also the same as with other knives that ride on bearings. As to why they used 7Cr17 my best guess is that it was the best value pricing they got from the Chinese factory and it is a modified 440A Buck likes the 440 series maybe they also wanted to have a decent inexpensive Pyrite alternative like other companies are making their version of the benchmade bugout. But this is only speculation I have no evidence to support this.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. The "half break" is a fail-safe from Demko and is intended to prevent the blade from closing completely under an accidental/partial disengage from the user. The genuine knives does it as well. Reference here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rK9meJeUtM3ZfGQ.html
