Many years ago before i had any ropes or gear, that shaft had a haphazard series of ladders and a chain hanging down the centre. A few places the ladders didn't meet and you'd have to swing across on the chain like tarzan. There's a really nice traverse section with a chain hand-line but the chain was rotten 35 years ago.

My mate almost walked into that open shaft a years or two ago. The "smell" eminating from it made him stop and upon parting the gorse realised hed alsmost walked into it

I was there a few weeks ago and wondered who had been having a go. Wont name the place on here but can tell you that I explored it in the 1990s. It opened up to easy walking and I was optimistic but then started to close down to a choke. This was about half way up the valley at the location of the first shaft on the right looking inland. It looks from the video as though more stuff has moven down as you are just inside the portal, so a complete waste of time. The people at the tin works own the mineral rights and dont like people going underground in that area..

I had a feeling that I may have been angering some people as they covered it to start with. Gaining access to their mine is not my objective at all, I'm trying to find a way into Penhall's and the others in that sett on the other side. That's completely understandable I wont be bothering them again lol

@@TheMineFerret Wheal Kitty adit was explored by me years ago when it opened up again and was found to be blocked inside after 10 metres. I could save a lot of modern explorers a lot of trouble digging for nothing with my old field notes. I dont want to post my email address on here but it should not take much searching, feel free to contact.if you want.

Few years ago we were exploring a mine at a beach near Charlestown ( now sealed by a cliff fall) and one of the lads sat in a naturally formed "mud/goo" dam, causing the thing to blow. Err we ended up with a bright orange stream flowing out into the sea. For all the enviromentalists , the orange mess did dispappear in an hour.

I have nothing but respect for the miners who originally dug out these mine shafts and the people like yourselves who go down to rediscover the mines an bring them to our attention. Personally I would go down there as it would scare the c**p out of me. Thank you for your efforts in bringing this to everyone.

A bit further in past that collapse in Hazard adit is the section that Thyssens cleared from Allens shaft in 1985. If the tin price and LME hadn't gone south you might have been able to go right down the diagonal shaft in the dry....

The main objective of this trip was to check the state of the ladders, put a safety line from top to bottom to make future trips easier and safer and anytime left over have a look around to see what other work needs to be done to advance.
