why do I feel like we just watched something illegal? like a how-to video excerpt from anarchists cookbook or something.

Mass Loaded Vinyl tape is used for vibration and sound reduction. One time I went to tear some gaffer tape and it was glass fiber reinforced! I nearly cut myself trying to tear it. Also gaffer tape can react with PVC jacketed cables in a few months. It turns into a gooey mess. I worked in broadcast/video maintenance and have spent hours cleaning it off of expensive camera cables.

this mass loaded vinyl sounds sexy. could be very useful

I have a roll of electrical tape which has transferred the adhesive to the other side. It was not made that way.

Thanks for this video! I haven’t nearly finished watching yet, but I already want to thank you for the demos of how each tape stretches to conform to the quarter! That’s a really great way to show that property visually

Excellent! But what about UHMWPE tape? Or tapes with aggressive acrylic adhesive? I wish there was a company that produced a full matrix of material-thickness-adhesive-width-single/double tapes!

Wanna know why he used clay for those particular boards? To have an excuse to make the video.
@KiLLeRBison17 сағат бұрын
I really like this idea, especially if you want to keep everything fixed in place which is absolutely annoying if you've ever had to keep an awkward angle between 2 boards (as shown in the video). I don't really love having to buy special wire for this kinda thing, but trade-offs are a thing. Also, I would definitely recommend you get some flux paste and paint that shit on to those wires. It'll make soldiering those wires SO MUCH easier, trust me.

When measuring the temperature of a reflective surface with an IR thermometer, the issue is not the surface emissivity, but instead the fact that you are measuring the temperature of what is reflected in the surface, not the surface. Your measurements of a room temperature object object in a a room temperature room don't show that off very well, but your suggestion of using some non reflective tap is still a great solution.
@davidmalawey11 минут бұрын
amen to that - can confirm with IR camera we see temperatures mirrored like you say.

Interesting - I’m from the UK and we have a lot of PZ screws in construction. Indeed the PZ2 is almost a standing joke on building sites as being the universal screwdriver. In the uk we find Phillips is good for appliances built in a factory - and also for dry wall screws, other than that almost everything has gone over to pozi. For anyone wondering what a Pozi is - it looks similar to Philips - but it has 4 little “whiskers” on the head of the screw to tell you it’s a pozi and not a Philips . The screwdriver end itself has an extra 4 sharp but smaller flutes rotated 45 degrees to the main 4.

Hey man, just a small recommendation that can completely change your soldering game: Get your hands on some proper 63/37 leaded solder, I can personally vouch for mg chemicals no. 4886-227G. Also, some flux would be good practice too, I've used chipquik CQ4LF-1.0 with good results. These can be both had for under $100aud shipped to my door from Digikey. I saw a massive improvement in the wetting of my solder once I threw away the no-name 60/40 solder I was previously using. P.s. Remember to tin your irons tip, Nobody likes a dirty tip ;)

didnt see anyone mentioning loosing cooling of the board since the material is insulation this will be an issue when the board gets too hot and components break down the solder will also break down with high temperature even get so hot solder melts

15 minutes of 130C is not a "nice and easy" anything. Well atleast if you want these projects to live longer than a few days. I dont see any components in that circuit that are rated for that temperature. You'd prolly have to get MIL rated components for that. on the otherhand once you have an impression, you could have just baked the plastic clay by itself.
